Dandy Boho Stars

Dandy Boho Stars
6 inch
A new start.

I usually use most every color scrap in my quilts and rarely pick a color scheme to make a quilt. I was thinking I would try what I would call a Boho color scheme of grays, browns, electric oranges, sky blues and saturated purples. At first I thought I would make Sawtooth Stars but then I decided upon Dandy Stars. I've made several Dandy quilts of 12 inch blocks and love them so thought I would give a smaller version a try this time.  So far I'm liking it.

And sew on...

CELEBRATE! (my word of the year)

Jan. 26 - Celebrating dinner on a fancy plate!     Years and years ago I used to collect cabbage rose depression glass dishes. I have plates ,cups, saucers, salt and pepper, tumblers, berry bowls and a few other pieces. I have some in amber, green and pink. I used to set a fancy table for holidays and that was the only time I used the dishes I keep in an old pie safe in the dining room.   I cleared a place in my kitchen cupboard for some of the amber plates and am going to use them for dinner every evening. Might as well serve it up on a fancy plate every day. I collected them because I love roses and the dishes are just so beautiful. Might as well use what I love. I know my kids will just sell them when all is said and done.

Cabbage Rose Plate

A stack going into the cupboard.

Ready for dinner.

Ravioli with homemade sauce. The onions, peppers, garlic, tomatoes (Jersey Devil) and herbs were from my garden. Cooking for one sure takes some getting used to.

Cute little stars! And good idea to use the dishes you love. Why save them for "special"? Every day is special. The ravioli looks delicious!

Super scrappy star blocks, Cathy!! And those plates are beautiful--might as well use them--I have begun using things that I used to save for "special"--cause as you put it they will be sold off when I am gone.

Cooking for one sure must take some getting used to--glad to hear you are eating well though...hang in there kiddo--sending good thoughts your way!!

Yes. Use those dishes. The "kids" are not going to sell them. They are going to end up at the Goodwill. Love your blog.

What a great plan to use the dishes. Cute stars and another fun way to use your scraps! Well done!!

Absolutely!!!!! Use the stuff you love. You are most deserving of a beautiful plate under your meals.

Happy Sunday :-)

Great idea to serve up your meal on a lovely plate. Youcan then celebrate your food and make the effort of making a meal for one feel worthwhile. Love your Boho blocks, interesting selection of colours.

Absolutely use those plates. The time is NOW. I know what you mean about where they will probably end up someday. It's okay. They give YOU joy!!! <3

Love your blocks. Your comment about cooking for one choked me up. Cook more and freeze for later?

Yes! We deserve to use the good dishes. (I'll break out the Fiestaware today.) Your Boho Dandies are great.

Yes, we all need to use "the good stuff" now since we rarely have a child or grandchild who wants any of it. We do use our Fiestaware everyday. Your dishes are lovely and the ravioli looks delish! Hard to think about gardening when it is snowing again, though our good friend has over 200 onion sets started in his basement! Enjoy creating your dandy stars, they look like fun!

I agree, use the good stuff now. I have a few fine china plates that I use. I know no one in my family will want them but I like them and feel they make the meal more elegant.

I like those pretty stars, too! Great color combination, too. Your Depression Glas plates are lovely - yes, use them!

Yes indeed, use your gorgeous plates and enjoy their beauty.

We are trying hard to use our "special" things more often, too. Glad you are using yours!

Of course YOU are special enough for the special dishes! Why do we always hesitate to enjoy what we love? It is a great look dish plate too. I've never seen Cabbage Rose dishes before. I packed my mother's fancy dishes in boxes when we moved here. I thought the boys were too young to use such precious souvenirs. (The 3rd son wasn't even born yet.) Fast forward 26 years and the dishes are still in the boxes, lol.
Dandy Boho is a great block. Enjoy! ;^)

Lovely star, an attractive pattern. The dishes are beautiful. I have a couple of Polish pottery dishes that sometimes I just break out and use them for lunch or dinner and enjoy them. I think you just make a regular dinner and portion it out and freeze the portions. I freeze soup in small containers so it just makes one bowl. Your ravioli looks delicious! My husband has celiac, so we rarely eat pasta. There is GF pasta but it is expensive and higher in carbs than regular. I am glad you can enjoy a beautiful dinner.

My 92 year old Mama uses her fine china and crystal, and tells her daughters to use the pretties that each of us has. You only live once. You are worth it! :)

Like so many have already said, use the good stuff! I am just as guilty as anyone as I am not using the dishes I really like but instead keeping them for a special occasion - like what? I am 72 so far and don't entertain, have a small apartment and why shouldn't I treat myself a little special sometimes? I may as well and who knows what will happen to my stuff afterwards anyways? It may end up in the trash or at Goodwill. It's funny because I had been thinking about this for awhile now before I even saw your post today.

Well, clearly, we are all in agreement that you should use the good stuff. If I had any good stuff, I would use it, but I have probably 35 year old Pfaltzgraff dishes with chips and cracks and most of the iris design worn off. Maybe I should treat myself to a couple new dishes just for the heck of it. And yes, cooking for one is a challenge, one I haven't mastered yet even after two years.
