It's a Dandy!

It's a Dandy!
It's a top!
60 x 72

Its all in reds and blues. I used the last of my patriotic pieces large enough for blocks then added in some homespuns and plaids and then some florals. That's quite a mix.

I was going to make it a Quilt of Valor.  Then my Hubby recently reconnected  online with a high school friend he has not seen or heard from since he returned from Vietnam and we were living in Florida. Gosh that was a long time ago! We are not on Facebook but his friend Bruce found my email and name from my genealogy website and sent me an email asking about  how to get in contact with Hubby. Hubby happened to mention that I make quilts and Bruce said he was fascinated by quilts. So Hubby asked if I would make a quilt for Bruce.  Hope he will be fascinated by this one someday when it shows up as a surprise on his doorstep in Oregon.

Now to find a backing and figure out how to quilt it...

And sew on...

A perfect quilt for your husband's friend. I have often found a man is more profoundly moved by a personal quilt than a woman in my experience with giving comfort quilts.

So pleased your Dandy Quilt turned out so well. Each block is great, very striking in the blue and red fabrics. What a great story about Bruce, your husband’s school friend. I’m sure he will be thrilled when your beautiful quilt arrives in the mail. Keep on sewing!

I cannot stop staring at this quilt top. It is spectacular. I would have been stumped working with all dark fabrics and would have added white/low volume backgrounds but you stayed with a dark palette and the result is just amazing - a masculine quilt, with gravitas!!! Love it.

It is so satisfying making a quilt for someone who appreciates quilts. You know it will be loved and used. I really do like this design and the colors you used are very masculine - perfect match!

Love the quilt - the plaids add so much to it, and his reaching out to you at this time makes it seem like the quilt and the recipient were meant to be together.
