Yellow - Version 4.5

All of the blocks I made this week are made from 4.5 inch scraps.   I had a pile of fabrics that were probably less than a fat quarter or fat eighth and cut them into 4.5 inch strips, 2.5 inch strips and 1.5 inch strips since those are the size of scraps I most often use. 

Here are my four Dresdens.  Every month my goal is to make four of them appliqued to a gray background. I will make one in all the color of the month, one in month's color plus complement, one in month's color and black/white and one in month's color plus white/black.   In addition I am using polka dot centers surrounded by gray rick rack. 

I keep forgetting to take photos of the process and some tips on how I make Dresdens...maybe next month. 

Lest you be squeamish that I include spiders in my quilts...look up the symbolism of spiders in quilts and you will see that they are a symbol of good luck. 

2 - 12 inch Broken Wheel Blocks. 

Two sixteen inch Chevron blocks.  I'll probably use these at the end of the year in donation quilts. 

Two 12 inch HST blocks.  I'll probably also use these at the end of the year in donation quilts.

Moody Blues

Nine  inch Vintage Butterfly blocks for a quilt similar to a vintage one I saw at Nostalgic Cafe. 

I made these last year for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge and probably will still be making them this year. I now have 31 blocks and want 56.  This  is also called Beggar's Block.  

From the same 1.5 inch scrap I made 3 inch spool blocks.  I've made these during the last couple of Rainbow Scrap Challenges and have hundreds. After this year I might have enough for a large quilt. 

I made scrappy Wonky Log Cabins last year too but need a few more for a twin sized quilt.  I make these from my short string scraps. I first make 4 nine inch blocks and the join them into an 18 inch block.  I just finished a child sized  ( 40 x 58) Wonky Log using blue and black scraps. 

I made some HSTs from 4.5 inch scraps and joined them into a chevron block and a block of HSTs.

Mod Mod Quilt Along

My first installment - Chevrons for Mod Mod QAL

Honestly, I really don't like most of the Modern Quilts I see.  I'm not even sure why there is a separate category for Modern Quilts. Nor have I even seen the same definition  for Modern Quilt on blogs where an attempt to define is made.  But, I do like Unique Quilts and I do like using up scraps.  I have lots of less-than-one-fourth-yard pieces of fabric I need to use up and get out of here before I break a leg tripping over the piles. 

And so, I'm participating in a Unique Mod Mod Quilt Along that Sophie of Block Lotto is hosting.  I'm sure the quilt sampler using this year's Block Lotto Blocks will prove to be Unique. 

 My quilt will be Queen Sized and the blocks will all be made in primary colors and their complements. I'm not going to buy any fabrics to make the blocks. Well, I may need some help in the orange department since I don't like orange but do have a lot of blue, it's complement.  I'm color challenged so figure all those primary/complement blends will play nicely together for me in one big colorful unique quilt.
