It's a flimsy!
Made from scraps leftover from making a Vintage Spin quilt finished in January 2016.
My inspiration was this Spiraling Flying Geese quilt from the book History Repeated. I did not use the book instructions because my Flying Geese were a different size. I also added one more row and column than this one in the book. When I made the Flying Geese from leftovers I had no idea what I was going to do with them and only settled on this layout recently.
I see from an old blog post that I started making the Flying Geese from leftovers way back in August 2015. The blue-gray background was a big piece I purchased back when Hancock's went out of business. I think I have five yards and intended it for a backing. I have a pretty good chunk left that I may be able to use for backing on this quilt.
You may not have noticed my UFOs in 2019 page - a list of what I counted as UFOs as of December 31, 2018 -- but there's over 100 projects on that list. What possessed me to finally get this one from the list to flimsy stage? Well, I have belonged to the Stashbusters Yahoo Group for a number of years. A lot of ladies in that group also have lots of UFOs so a number of games are played to encourage us to bust stash and complete UFOs. I have participated in a UFO Challenge since I joined; however, I have not ever participated in the Random Numbers Challenge. The way it is played is you number your UFOs and then two random numbers are drawn each month and you try to complete those UFOs within the month. This year I decided to give it a try. These Flying Geese Leftovers from Vintage Spin was #84 on my list.
#84 started with 52 Flying Geese...
...and leftover scraps...
...to make more Flying Geese. I made 84 more Geese, decided on a layout, found enough fabric for the quilt background, did the math to put it all together and then put it all together. I don't think Ill get it completed this month but it's moved forward. And I still have lots of scraps left. Hmmmmm....
