Another Nine Patch
No clever name comes to me for this one
78 x 78
Machine quilted on my DSM
It's basically a little Nine Patch within another Nine Patch (or Puss in the Corner) with striped sashing. I used 2.5 inch scraps to frame the little nine patches.
I used to participate in a quarterly 3 inch nine patch swap so had lots of those on hand. I still have a lot of them and am always looking for new ways to use them. I think I've made five different quilts that used nine patches.
The quilt was inspired by a picture I saw of a Susan McDermott quilt in Quilt magazine.
I quilted it with straight lines on the diagonal. I tried to quilt it so the little nine patches poofed out.
I used a 100% cotton queen sized sheet from the thrift store for the backing. The tag was still on it - $2. I was going to make a scrappy binding but couldn't decide on which scraps to use from the 2.5 scrap bin - they are all rather short. And I don't have many bright pieces in the leftover binding bin. So I used plain old red to match the corner stones.

The striped sashing makes the quilt sing!
LOVE that striped sashing with the red cornerstones. It just brings all those scraps together!!! congrats on a beautiful finish.
I love all the color in this quilt, Cathy! It's a happy quilt!
You are the queen of bright scrappy quilts. You never disappoint! I too love the striped sashing. It adds so much interest. Thanks for sharing with Oh Scrap!
Great finish, Cathy.
I like the striped sashing and red cornerstones too.
That's a classic.
I ADORE that striped sashing! I'm definitely putting that into my idea bucket! 8)
Another winner! What a colorful, Happy quilt. I've used striped fabric as a border, but never for sashing. I've been making four patches with some scraps left from a watercolor quarter log cabin. Maybe this design would work with them.

I love this quilt, it's so bright and cheery! I never would have put that striped sashing fabric with the bright colors in the 9-patch blocks, but it is absolutely perfect!
I too love the striped sashings around your double nine-patch blocks. The quilt is really very pretty! ---"Love"
Great quilt ... reminds me of a good old-fashioned roll of lifesavers!
Another wonderful scrappy quilt! I love the striped sashing, it really livens up the good old 9patch!
Another fabulous quilt. The striped sashing and red binding set the nine patches off perfectly.
An explosion of color! BOOM! I just love the stripey sashing on this one, and the red binding really does tie it all together. Great finish!
Love it!!!! So much color and so much fun.
How about "Show Me Your Stripes"? Love the bright colors, as usual!

This turned out fabulously! Love all those scrappy nine patches.
Stunning! The colors absolutely pop. The striped sashing is perfect.
It turned out colorfully well (to coin a phrase). My version is still in the box of flimsies. Of course I still have LOTS of our swap 9-patches, and I'll bet you do, too.
Oh my! I LOVE this quilt. That striped sashing is the bomb!! That’s a layout I might copy sometime. 😍
How many of your 4th quarter QAL goals have you finished? I bet you’ve made great progress because it always seems as though you’re finishing something.
So wonderful and cheery its melting all the snow around it! And Cathy is right about the sashing...its so wrong and that's what makes it perfect.
The striped sashing is perfect 👌!
The stripe fabric you used for sashing is one I probably would never have bought but gosh, it looks fabulous as sashing. The whole quilt has a feeling of plaid about it (though I can't say why). Wonderful!
Love that sashing fabric. It's so neat that no matter what fabric or color palette you use, there is something about all your quilts that say 'Cathy made this!'. Great job on another wonderfully scrappy look quilt!
Puss in corner and 9 patches. Cat with 9 tails or cat with 9 lives :)
Congrats on another beautiful finish!
