Wooden Ships on the Water, Very Free and Easy

Wooden Ships
It's a flimsy
36 x 48

A few years ago...or was it last year?...I was making one block a month using the Rainbow Scrap Challenge color of the month for sails.  I got as far as seven blocks and then quit making them. I guess I stashed them away and forgot I was making them.  Anyway, a few weeks ago I found them and made the five blocks necessary to complete a top.

I had the backing stored with the blocks so I wouldn't use it for something else.  Usually I find something for a backing only after I complete a top.

I know a couple of people who will be grandparents soon so this will go to them when finished.

And that's why getting this finished will be August's OMG (One Monthly Goal).

How funny I only saw his block again on someone else's blog the other day and it reminded me of your ship blocks. It's another of your ideas squirreled away in my head. The different fabric boats and seas are great.

I had forgotten about your ships - they're wonderful! (And now I'm wondering what I did with all my itty bitty boats...)

Love your ship blocks. This quilt is on my bucket list. Hopefully some day soon it will make it to the top.

I wondered why I liked that block so much, was going to go copy the pattern and then realized I had a UFO with the same pattern. Love your top!

I've never been a fan of sailboat quilts, but you're making me rethink things! Love the blue backgrounds especially!

A great goal for August, which I think of typically as a boating month. I like the fabrics you used, and the whole overall beauty of this quilt. Lucky grandparents, on all counts! Thanks for the QC link. I get lost on there if I don't have a direct link, and spend hours playing and downloading. LOL

Congratulations, it's a flimsy!
And, yes, a great August quilt. The colors are perfect with with the right amount of contrast.

I love the colors and the blue background. I need to make a few more masculine quilts like that.

That's so cute Cathy! What a nice surprise to find a baby quilt that's almost finished when you need one soon, and the backing with it! Are you lucky or what?

It should come as no surprise that I'm always looking for boat themed fabrics. That backing is great! I've never seen that one before. Is it a quilting fabric? It's very, very hard to find boat fabrics/blocks/quilts that aren't sailboats. Your sailboat blocks are very nice; I wish I could find a power boat block. Maybe I'll have to design one.

Gotta love those awesome boats! Ships. A perfect babyquilt! (And the song is an all-time fave of mine from my favorite band. Great name!)
