Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2019

Chunky Cats
Trial blocks

Next year I'll make a few each month in the Rainbow Scrap Challenge (RSC) color of the month from some of the small bits and pieces in the chunk scrap crate. I found a free and very easy to make pattern for cats that finish at 5 x 9.   I think forty-eight of them will make a nice sized donation quilt 40 x 54 so I'm thinking I will aim to make four blocks per month.

I've been assessing all of my scraps so I can make a plan of action for 2019.

The Rainbow Scrap Challenge is one of those challenges that is fun and helps me keep scraps somewhat under control.  In addition there is a ScrapHappy linky party every Saturday where you can follow other people's progress, see new ideas for scraps and otherwise be inspired.  The last few years there has been a sampler sew along; however, I decided not to sew along. I may this year. I'm still undecided but RSC Sampler 2019 looks interesting.

Other RSC 2019 projects that are mostly continuing on from this year will be:

1.5 inch scraps
Bitcoins
Rails

2 inch scraps
Wonky Stars (also uses waste triangles)
Ticky Tacky Houses
Wedding Ring
16 Patch

2.5 inch scraps
HISS
Sprouts (might have enough blocks already)
Power of Positive Thinking

3.5 inch scraps
Broken Dishes
Chevrons

4.5 inch scraps
Fractured Rails
HRTs

I'm also trying to use my selvages and strings but those won't be blocks sewn together by color so won't fall under the RSC Challenge.

Looking forward to next year!

So many great projects in progress. The cats look like fun. Plenty of time still to debate on the new sampler.....

How on Earth can you keep up with 15 projects on the go? I would be drowning in fabric scraps! Thank you for posting the link for that simplified kitty pattern.

The cats are such fun to make, I made one a few years ago it was a pattern from 25 years ago given to me by a friend. I'm sure you'll enjoy this little project.

I have not done any of the RSC samplers because I've always had projects of my own underway and this coming year will be no exception. Interesting to see the list of how you have your projects organized by scrap size -- you do so well with that approach!!

Great minds think alike! I sort my RSC projects by size of scrap they utilize. For 2019, I’ll have selvages, strings (lots of those), HSTs and four-patches, and even some whole projects again by color. The hardest part isn’t keeping track, is it? It’s narrowing down the possibilities! I really look forward to seeing all your fantastic projects!!

A great selection of ideas for next year's RSC Quilts. Some have intriguing titles....... HISS, Power of Positive Thinking? I shall be looking out for those blocks as they come along.

The cats are adorable. I've never thought about sorting my RSC projects by size of the scraps! Brilliant! Thanks for making my mind spin. I love how you have them organized.

You're AUDITIONING blocks?? For a second I broke out in a little sweat on my forehead. The "fly by the seat of my pants" part of me panicked. Then I saw Ticky Tacky Houses and wiped my forehead. I GOT this!!
Happy New Year

Oh dear. This is the cat pattern that Mystic Quilter used during my first year of the RSC. They found their way to my studio and had kittens. Please quilt responsibly!

You have a great plan to use your scraps.

Great cat block! Easy peasy. I have lots of RSC ideas but haven't really settled into my final decisions yet. We're on the road away from my fabric and somehow it's harder to make decision while not being able to pet the stash...

Happy New Year, Cathy!

Kitties!!! That's going to be a fun block for the RSC. Enjoy!
I always love seeing how you organize your scrap-use. Then I tell myself I should get organized, too. And then I laugh because "me" and "organized" could never be in the same sentence...
Happy New Year!
