My husband shoveled a path to the clothesline so I could go out and take a few photos now that the weather has warmed up just a little. 

I participated in a Birthday Club several years ago.  Members request a block for their birthday month and I requested any star in 30s reproductions on a blue background.  I was thinking these stars were from two different Birthday Clubs but now that I look at the stars it looks like I made all but about 8 of them. Most of the blocks I received were on solid blue backgrounds. I guess I'm a little wilder. 

My birthday wish was a Star sampler.  I don't know what took me so long to get this together since I only needed one more star to make a total of 30. 

I did variable width straight line quilting on my DSM in a variegated blue thread. 

 I was afraid to begin with that when the lines were closer together the quilt would be stiff. It's not.  I used a light weight 100% polyester batting and maybe that's why?  Most of the time I use Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 and I'm thinking that's a little heavier and might have made it stiffer.  Anyway, it all worked out and I like it a lot. 

For the backing I used a gingham that's a little wrinkly like seersucker but it's not seersucker.

Still Seeing (and Making) Stars

This week I've added a couple more 12 inch star blocks to my collection. 

This year I participated in a birthday block exchange with a group of ladies who like 30s reproductions.  I asked for any 12 inch star block on a blue background. 

I want to make a queen-sized quilt so need 42 blocks total. 

Each week for the Choose Your Own Blockalong at Live A Colorful Life I've been choosing to make at least one star to add to my collection. 

This week I've added a Dandy quilt block and a Morning Star.  It looks like I used black in the Morning Star but it is actually navy blue. Not so sure it is in keeping with 30s fabrics but someone made me a birthday block with navy background so thought I would add at least one other block with navy so that other one wouldn't look out of place.

I've made 4 more 12 inch birthday stars in 30s reproduction with a blue background. 

This quilt started with a birthday exchange of 12 blocks. 

I need a total of 42 blocks and with sashing I should have a full/queen sized quilt. 

The most fun is finding different stars to make each week.  I hope I don't have to resort to paper piecing to meet my goal of 42!

Choose Your Own BlockAlong. What I Chose.

I'm working on a red/white quilt.  I participated in a red/white 12 inch block swap last year and those blocks have been in my UFO box since then.   When "Choose Your Own Block Along" came along I decided to add some 3,6, and 9 inch blocks to those swapped blocks so I could eventually end up with a Full-Queen sized quilt. 

The fun part each week is picking my own blocks to make and add to the pile.

This week I made four 6 inch blocks. 

Top row is Contrary Wife and Cathy's Campfire.

Bottom row is Buttercup and Anvil. 

Also each week for "Choose Your Own Block Along" I hope to make two 12 inch Star blocks of my choice in 30s reproduction fabrics with a blue background. 

These will be added to my Birthday Club blocks.  Again, I will make blocks each week until I have enough for a Full-Queen Sized quilt.   Depends upon how many 12 inch Star blocks I can find (and am capable of making). 

These blocks are Another Nine Patch Star and Amish Star.

The Chosen

I'm participating in the Choose Your Own Blockalong at Live a Colorful Life. 

I want to add enough blocks to my 12 -30s reproduction birthday club blocks for a large bed quilt. 

My request of the birthday club was for 12 inch star blocks of choice in 30s reproduction fabrics on a blue background. 

So my first choice of block is a star block following those rules. 

The first star block is Annie's Choice the second one is Ann's New Years Eve Star. 

Red and white blocks in 3, 6, 9 and 12 inches is my second blockalong project. 

I have 12- 12 inch blocks from a red/white swap last year and I want to make enough blocks to finish a large bed quilt.   Hopefully each week I hope to make the equivalent of at least one 12 inch block.  For instance, this week I made one 9 inch Crossover block and 3- 3 inch 9 patches.
