It's a Finish! Vintage Thingamajigs

 Vintage Thingamajigs
It's a finish!
60 x 78
Hand quilted
I started making these blocks last year after I was inspired by some vintage blocks on Flickr.
I don't know the name of the block so I started calling it Vintage Thingamajig and the name stuck.  I made the blocks a 20 minute a day project and worked on them for the equivalent of 20 minutes each day between July 1 and December 30.
Each six inch block has 29 pieces and they look like they could be an Ohio Star variation.
That sure was a lot of little points to match and little pieces to orient properly. Sometimes they didn't match and sometimes they weren't oriented properly. And so it goes.  The nice thing about little scrappy blocks is that it's difficult to spot oopsies (unless you are the maker).
I did big stitching with black perle #8 as you can see and as you can't see - in the ditch between blocks.  I didn't mark anything. I just enjoyed stitching.  They way it is stitched kind of makes the blocks poof out.
I pieced together small bits and pieces of this calico to use on the back.

Getting this finished was my April OMG (One Monthly Goal)  at   Elm Street Quilts

Getting this finished was also my goal #2   for  Q2 Finish-Along

at first glance I hadn't noticed you had pieced the pieces around the squares - I thought it was the print of fabric - you put a lot of work in this

I wondered how long it would be until you finished the first Quilt on your Second Quarter list. It's super, love the reds. So, if there are 29pieces in each block, how many in the whole quilt? Mind boggling. That sounds like a question in a Maths test!

It's fantastic! I love how brave you are with the dark thread quilting and I love it so much I want to do the same but haven't settled on a project yet. I'm thinking about quilting big stitch in aqua thread on Clarissa!

Isn't it amazing what can get accomplished in 20 minutes a day. Your quilt is just lovely. Some day I will be brave enough to quilt in a color on my quilts.

Congratulations! It is stunning. When I drafted out my version, I ended up with 5" blocks. Have 3 months made, need to work on the 4th month (aqua) next.

That is such a great quilt! Such an interesting block, and I really like how the red ties everything together, too.

What a pretty quilt this is! It is loaded with scrappy goodness and the red always looks great in these kind of quilts. Since it is hand quilted, I am assuming you are keeping it?

Love this quilt Cathy! And it turned out even better than it promised to be at the start. I would love to make one some day with red in the background as well. Such a great looking quilt!

This sure turned out lovely! You're so right about scrappy finishes, they do hide imperfections, ..er design inspirations! Your big stitch hand quilting is perfect for this quilt - a keeper for you or family I hope?
