Streak of Lightning Flimsy

 Streak of Lightning
It's a flimsy!
60 x 72

It will be a donation quilt when finished.
A lot of times I only use rainbow colors in my Rainbow Scrap Challenge projects. That leaves me with scraps in a few other colors without a project.  In 2017 I made some pink and blue-green HSTs to use those colors of scraps. In 2018 I made more  HSTs until I ran out of blue-green scraps and then joined them together into blocks.  This year I found more aqua and pink scraps and made 11 more blocks and joined them for a flimsy.

I don't have a design wall so just randomly sew blocks together. Most of the time that works well with small scrappy blocks but sometimes not so well with larger blocks.  Above was how the flimsy looked when I first sewed blocks together. I didn't like all that dark blue-green in the middle so took off the bottom three rows and sewed them back on as the top three rows.   That left more of the same value of blue-green together in the body of the quilt and I liked that a little better.

I was thinking that this was close to a twin sized quilt but now that I'm blogging about it I think I am a row short. I think a twin quilt would be better at 84 inches in length instead of 72 inches.  I think I'll have to find more pink and blue-green scraps for 45 more HSTs - one more row.

it looks great but I agree if you want it for a bed it is always better to have it a little longer - like your colors

I agree, your changing those 3 rows around in the quilt is great. So another bunch of HSTs to make your extra row. Is that what you're doing today? Happy Easter.

That is a WOW quilt! I would not have thought to put pint and blue/green together, but it is pretty amazing!

That's such a neat design! I love the pinks and blue-greens together, too.

Love the layout - and the scrappy nature of this top. Happy HST-ing!

The way you arranged your streaks to drop from left to right adds so much life to this pattern! Excellent design!

Two words. Design FLOOR!! That's how I manage my block layouts. It works (fairly) well. Not sure you really need that OR a design wall. You're quilts always seem to come together nicely. Congrats on the AQUA flimsy!

I have a design wall now but for years used the floor and climbed the stairs or a ladder to get a view. I like moving around and sometimes wish I still used the older system.
So smart to simply move some rows. And one more row will make a more useable quilt.
You are so prolific and make wonderful scrap quilts. It's always a joy to see what you're up to.

Another fabulous flimsy! I love your streak of lightning setting - so much energy!
I'm sure you'll have another row of blocks done lickety-split!

Artfully arranged! Very lovely! Turquoise (Aqua, Pool, Aruba etc) is one of my favorite colors,
along with orange, red, And I shouldn't forget yellow; they get jealous if I leave one of them out.

Does that mean I spend too much time thinking about color when I start giving them personalities?

Happy Easter!

I love your flimsy! I never would have guessed that the design was made entirely of HSTs--very cool!

Very cute design and colors! You come up with a new flimsy almost daily!

Very interesting to see how these nine patch blocks move diagonally across the quilt top. I didn't visualize that at all when you were showing individual blocks. Cool design, made cooler by this sparky color combo! I'm thinking I need to make a quilty streak of lightning now that the boat has had her first (and hopefully last) strike :)
