Craving Complex

I've been concentrating on finishing up all the donation quilt tops I made last year. I still have a lot of tops to finish but I think I need a break from that goal for a week or so.  I've been craving something new; something complex.  So I made a this star block - the first of 25.   It's not really all that complex to make once the sixty degree angled pieces are cut. I think I'm sixty degree angle challenged. Maybe that will change with practice.
Anyway, this instructions for this quilt is from American Patchwork and Quilting October 2015 and is inspired by a vintage quilt. You know how I love vintage quilts. This one has been on my list since I saw it in 2015. And lucky me...before I retired I used to buy muslin almost every time I saw it on sale (mostly to use with my 30s reproduction and civil war reproduction fabrics) so I have the 4+ yards needed for the background. I considered using another color but I don't have a lot of yardage in solid colors and would have to buy it. I'm not going to buy fabric when I can make do with muslin in the stash.

That's really pretty. I like muslin too. It's soft, easy to quilt and does give a vintage look.

Oo, pretty! Will you stick with blues, or taste the rainbow?

That is going to be beautiful. I think everything you do is complex!

I think the star points could be strip pieced and all cut on 60 degree angle at once. I did it for some lone stars one time and it worked like a charm. It may have been a Fons and Porter Love of Quilting magazine pattern. I am not sure.

Such a beautiful block! It's good to have a challenging project in between the simpler ones--enjoy!

I'm pretty sure I have that magazine. I'm also pretty sure I'm not up to that quilt yet, but I WILL be! It is just gorgeous.

Oh, that looks like a fun star to play with! Enjoy your new project! (while I jot down another quilt to add to my list) (you know, like I usually do every time I see what you're making!)

This will be another amazing quilt. I know you're trying to just use what you have, but you might want to consider Jaybird Quilts Hex N More ruler. It would be perfect for this block.

I know just what you mean. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in working on the simple projects that our minds are craving something that makes us concentrate a little harder! lol This is going to be another one of your fabulous quilts!

This looks like a very interesting design. I have a feeling that you are not going to just stick with the blues.

A lovely start! Nice to have something a bit more challenging now & then, and what a beauty of a quilt you will end up with! I think Judy Newman made something similar, her 'sugar plum' quilt, and set it on a vintage pink, which was very pretty.
