I quilted it on my sewing machine with vertical, horizontal and diagonal lines.

The binding is a multicolor print.

Hidden Log Cabin

In December 2024 someone with the Stashbusters group posted a link to Hidden Log Cabin made with a jelly roll or layer cake. I don't normally even look at jelly roll or layer cake ideas because I don't buy precuts. BUT at around the same time as the link came out someone sent me a flannel jelly roll so I went and looked at the video. 

The video calls for 42 strip jelly rolls and the one I had was 40. I used 35 strips which is all I needed to make a nice sized kiddo quilt. 

I finished the top in December 2024.

I quilted it on my sewing machine with vertical lines. 

The back and binding are a darker green flannel.

And now it is ready for donation.

I used civil war reproduction scraps to make the blocks.  The top was finished in March 2021. 

I big stitch hand quilted it with pink, brown and ecru perle cotton #8.

The quilting makes a design on the solid burgundy back. And the burgundy solid sure picks up a lot of stray threads!

Log Cabin 

I am big stitch hand quilting it with pink, ecru and brown perle cotton.

. I used civil war reproduction scraps to make the blocks. I assembled the top back in 2021. 

I think I have finished stitching more than half the quilt. I stitch about an hour or so each night after dinner. 

The theme in my sewing space this month has been "log cabins and variations" so that's how this top got picked for the hoop.

This is one of the four Log Cabin tops I made last December. It is the first of the four to be finished. 

Last December someone with the Stashbusters group posted a link to Hidden Log Cabin made with a jelly roll or layer cake. I don't normally even look at jelly roll or layer cake ideas because I don't buy precuts BUT At the time I had a lot of 2.5 inch width scraps so used those I had in bright colors and black/white. 

I used black multicolor squares for all centers. 

I quilted it on my sewing machine with vertical lines. 

There's peppers on the back. 

I spent the first half of August assembling tops and now I think I will spend the second half doing some quilting. I think I will work on finishing child sized comfort quilts and alternate between quilting UFOs and new starts this year.

Big stitch hand quilted

Vintage inspired and made from rose themed scraps, I started this quilt in December 2021, 

I made 16 inch log cabin blocks. Some have 4.5 inch centers and some have 6.5 inch centers cut from scraps. If the center was 4.5 inch I added a frame of 1.5 inch scraps to bring it up to 6.5 inches. Then the next rounds were 2 inch, 2.5 inch and 2 inch strips.  Some of the strips were pieced together with different fabrics (make do). 

I quilted it very simply with big stitches in red, black and ecru perle cotton #12. 

I had barely started the hand quilting on this quilt when my husband John was admitted to the hospital. I put my quilt, hoop and tin of supplies in a big black garbage bag with ties so I could sling it over my shoulder to easily carry it into the hospital.  I did the big stitching for a week during most of the 12 hours I was "visiting" John with time outs for eating and drinking something from my bag of snacks. Every once in awhile I read a book on my Kindle.  I received a few questions from health care workers like "is that a quilt?" The most frequently asked question was "how long does it take you to make a quilt?". My answer was "I don't know. All quilts are different and the time makes no difference to me so I have never kept track."   (I did finish all the hand quilting the week John was in the hospital). 

For the binding I used different rose prints on black.

The backing has two of my favorite things...roses and valentines.

I've had this fabric for a long long time. I finally found the perfect quilt for it and there was just enough of it so I guess it was meant to be.

I made the top August 2022.

I used '30s reproduction fruity prints and solids to make the blocks. I quilted it on my DSM with swirls in a variegated thread. 

The binding is a stripe.

There's lemons on the back.

Three Little Finishes

All contain some '30s reproduction fabrics with little animals or kids playing. I made all the block sets last year and assembled the tops and finished the quilts this month.

Quilted with horizontal and vertical lines on my DSM.

Backing and binding are the same multicolored orange batik.

Log Cabin Variation

This one was actually inspired by a vintage one that had more of a zig-zaggy look - maybe more like  Fields and Furrows layout. Well, anyway, when I went to lay out my blocks like that I went "ewwwww, yucky, icky". So I played around with the little five inch blocks and came up with this layout. 

I quilted it with spirals in a multicolored thread on my DSM. 

And here's the backing and binding. 

Now the little finishes are ready to comfort some little ones.
