Carpenter Star
60 x 76
I added a border so now it's a top ready to be quilted.
I added a 2.5 inch white strip, a scrappy strip of '30s reproduction fabrics and another 2.5 inch white strip. I don't usually add borders to my quilts but I am glad I went ahead and added to this one. I was not really all that happy with the quilt before borders. Now I'm happy.
This month the theme in my sewing space is 1930s. I was going through my '30s reproduction scraps and was wondering what to do with a little bag of 2.5 inch scraps that were left over from the scraps I used to make this quilt which were left over from making Ocean Waves. I just sewed the bits and pieces end to end until they were long enough for the borders. (And I still have a few 2.5 inch scraps that will be dealt with).
And sew on...

Love the border. Great idea.
Your border is the perfect finish for a beautiful quilt!
BEAUTIFUL! The borders are perfect, they really add bling to your quilt. Happy stitching!
This is a beautiful quilt! Exactly what a scrap quilt should be!
Your idea for borders has worked out beautifully - definitely brought this quilt to life.
I agree with everyone. The border is perfect. Very pretty quilt
I really like the border on this one. That extra square at the corners brings it up a notch to elegant.
The border adds a nice frame. Great design. But: more snow?!!
Oh yes, good decision to go with the border and I also like the addition of the corner squares. A true scrappy quilt, beautiful.
What a pretty quilt! You're finally getting the hang of the borders.
I like the border addition. Now the stars have a place to be. They do not run off the top. Well done.
As some have said before, I also like your addition of the diagonal colored blocks in the corner.
I second Wanda (Exuberant color). The corner square in the border is a nice touch. The scrappy border frames the quilt perfectly. Excellent job! Bravo! ;^)
Beautiful quilt Cathy, and the borders make it even more beautiful!
So pretty! Love the border!
Carpenter Star is amazing and looks fabulous with the snow in the background. It is indeed a happy quilt.
