Pickled Pink

I finished 12 more arches for the Pickle Dish quilt I'm making as a wedding gift for my granddaughter who loves pink. 

I'm still rehearsing fabrics for the centers that join the arches. 

I picked up this remnant the other day and thought it might make a nice center. And, now I think otherwise. 

I still have a while to decide on centers. My granddaughter is only 9.

Hand Quilting

I'm still working, slowly but surely, on hand quilting my butterfly quilt.  

This time of year it is either too hot, I'm too tired after a long and busy day at work, or I have gardening to do or garden produce to freeze or dry or can so hand quilting a very large quilt is last on my list of priorities. 

I do only have three side sashings left to quilt. 

I might have to add something to the corners up there. 

I have found I actually love hand quilting. Who knew? 

I'm still working on perfecting my stitches but I'm very used to a thimble now.

Not sure I like to applique, though. Jury is still out.

Almost 50 Shades of Envy (or Spewing Green Chunks)

I added a few more 12 inch green Dandy blocks  this week to my pile. I have several  chunks (less than a FQ on most of them) of green I'm trying to use up. 

I figured if I end up with 50 or more blocks I would call the quilt Fifty Shades of Envy.  That's probably a lot better than calling it Spewing Green Chunks. 

(Wouldn't it have been nice if I had those two tree fabrics turned right side up for the photo shoot? They are hardly recognizable as trees. )

 Lucky me...I won a few of Vicki's  hand-dyed "scraps" when she was hosting the HSTeria Sewalong so I used up her green scraps  (plus some navy Kona)  and made more half blocks for my Birds in the Air quilt I previously blogged about on July 25.

Shades of Envy

Green is again the color of the month for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I used up most of my small pieces of green scraps and I'm left with a lot of green chunks - enough to make up some 12 inch Dandy Quilt Blocks.  I have about 15 of these now in varying shades of green with a lot more green chunks to go. 

And I added more 13 inch Bear Foot blocks to my pile...this time in green. In case you haven't been following along...I have a bunch of swapped four patches that I am using up in Bear Foot blocks.

99 - 6 inch Thrifty Blocks

(Yes, I do see now that a couple of blocks had the corner four patches oriented the wrong way)!!! 

I completed my July Lovely Year of Finishes goal  (#103 on ALYoF goal setting page).   Actually, I did more than my goal. I only wanted to complete the top but I've not only completed the top...I quilted it on my plain Jane Janome DSM and then finished sewing down the binding by hand. 

I swapped a different color of Thrifty Block (directions from Block Lotto) each month with a group of ladies on a Yahoo Group in 2010. (I think it was 2010 or it might even have been 2009. I left the group long ago).  I finished a Rainbow Thrifty Quilt late last year with some of the other colors. 

I quilted it, as I previously mentioned, on my plain Jane DSM. All 99 squares have free form (very free form) flower quilted on it. 

The back is a 100% cotton PINK sheet in excellent condition from the thrift store. 

I think I know a PINK loving little girl who will love the quilt. 

Seeing Red But Not For Long

I finished up a lot of red lozenges. Mine are the small size which will finish at 2 x 4.5

They are pretty boring to make since I can't get into the leader/ender type of sewing but I like them because they are kind of a diary of fabrics that have passed through my hands. 

I finished my red postage stamp Sunbonnet Sue.  I saw the vintage  pattern last year at Q is for Quilter. 

She will get added to the rest of the rainbow girls. I have a brown one I made last year when the RSC color was brown.  So now I have 8.  My quilt will have 12- not 9 like in the pattern. 

I did use a lot of red strings and used up some small red fabric chunks when I made these 48 string blocks...

...and these 48 Happy Blocks. I mailed them to some members of the Heartstrings group since they are having a sew-in today to make quilts for Veterans entering hospice.
