Transformations

Stars
6 inch finished

A couple of years ago I made over 300  three inch Square in Square (SIS) blocks as one of my Rainbow Scrap Challenge (RSC) projects.  I divided them up into piles for three different quilts - #1 Stars, #2 Happy Blocks and #3 SIS alternating with Squares.

Yellow is the RSC color of the month so I transformed some yellow SIS into Stars.

Happy Blocks
6 inch finished
and a couple of
Stars

I also turned a few SIS into Happy Blocks.

Squared Away
7.5 inch finished

And four little 3 inch finished Broken Dishes blocks were transformed into a Squared Away block.

Your black and white prints are really pretty with the yellows! Pretty Squared Away block, too. Yellow is such a happy color!

I really like the black and white stars with yellow! And, could a Happy Block be any happier than one surrounded by yellow? I don’t think so!

Twinkle, twinkle, cute little black stars with sunny yellow.

Those black SIS turned into black stars are AWEsome! What a striking quilt they would make on their own. Wow! Enjoy! ;^)

I remember making those “potato chip” blocks (or whatever they were called) that started with a 2.5” square and surrounding it with two 2.5” squares to make the 3.5” square-in-square block. I did them for the RSC too, and took mine up to 4.5” by adding a 1.5” strip to 2 sides. I wish I hadn’t - I hate them, and they’ve sat, gathering dust, for years. Maybe it’s time to pick off those two sides and get more creative with the original block. I love how you’ve used them in so many creative ways!

As always, I am impressed with your scrap progress. I am looking forward to seeing them in a quilt in the near future!

I would never think of having a treasure trove of square in Square centers. I may have to rethink some of my methods. It looks like it was fun to make so many sunny stars. ...and the center was already done!
thinking about treasure troves now. Thank for a new thought.

Your yellow blocks remind me of evening primrose, also called sundrops, which is now blooming among the wildflowers.

I love all your blocks, but it's those SIS Stars that are trying to get all my attention!
