I'm not sure of the name of this block. I've been calling it a Buckeye Beauty Variation. Instead of a four patch in the corner there is a nine patch. I was inspired by a vintage quilt to make these blocks. I'm using '30s reproduction fabrics as well as plaids, shirtings and homespuns. When all is said and done these blocks should finish off a lot of bits and pieces of all those fabrics.
The blocks finish at six inches and I'm thinking I'll aim for a twin sized quilt/comfort quilt about 60 x 78. That's 130 blocks if my fabrics stretch that far. If they stretch farther then I will aim for an 84 x 84 quilt.
Right now I think I have 44 blocks.
This is the inspiration quilt (or maybe those are just blocks? Can't remember just now the source of that photo). Reminds me of the quilts grandma used to make from old clothes and other scraps.
And sew on...

Oh how your fabric and block choices come together for a very vintage look! I'm impressed and just a bit jealous (in a healthy way of course...haha).
It does indeed look like a quilt my grandmother would have made. She was "scrappy" before it was fashionable. Love how your's is looking.
This is a really interesting variation! I don't think I've ever seen the block anywhere else, so I'm enjoying watching yours come together!
I know this is the second time you’ve shown the blocks for this quilt, because what has struck me most about these blocks each time is your use of thirties (repro) fabrics with plaids (shirtings/homespun). They work so darn well together! Beautiful!! It my just be the solution I’m looking for for using up my not-so-robust collection of shirtings. And who can even justify buying shirts now at the thrift store just to cut them up when (at least locally) they run $8.49-9.99. And none are ever left over for half-price day!
There is so much detail in everyone of these blocks. Amazing combinations of such a variety of fabric types and colours.
