Skimpy Scrimption Stars
aka Selvage Stars
It's a finish!
60 x 84
Hand quilted
I was inspired by the above quilt c. 1880 in the Pat Nickols collection at the Mingei International Museum.
I started making blocks back in December 2018.
I used Corey Yoder's (Coriander Quilts) string star tutorial which was nice because I didn't have any set in seams to deal with while making these 8 point stars.
I don't have a large stash so I try to make use of every little bit of fabric -- yes, even itty bitty pieces of selvages. Good thing I just love to sew with scraps!
I big stitch hand quilted with perle cotton #12 in yellow and in red.
Be My Valentine...
...Giggles...
...Wildflower Serenade...
...and Love quilted right in. It took me a long time to decide what to use as a binding. I ended up just alternating strips of the same red and yellow solids I used as backgrounds.
A Day In The Garden and a single chocolate chip. What could be better? Quilting maybe?
Owls are on the back.
And sew on...

Super project for your selvedges. Bright and stunning finish.
Wow, just gorgeous! If I didn't use my selvedges for tomato plant ties, maybe... oh who am I kidding? Lol
I love it! I'll bet I could spend a long long time just trying to read all the words!
I have her tutorial and have sworn I was going to use it. Good for you for actually doing so!
Wonderful quilt and beautifully hand quilted!
You did a marvelous job on staying true to the feel of the inspiration quilt, Cathy. Fantastic scrappy quilt finish!!
That's such a bright and happy selvedge quilt, it's certainly saying, "I'm here, and I'm gorgeous, check me out". Bet you've still got plenty of selvedges left, I never get to the end of mine and I stopped collecting thing them ages ago.
Another wonderful quilt! Love the yellow and red background choice! :)
Congratulations on a great finish! I just visited the link for the tutorial by Corey and now know how to use up my hundreds of 1" strings, thanks for the link.
It is finished and it is beautiful scrap quilt, love also how you hand quilted it, Well done!!!
Your quilt is beautiful. I am amazed at the number of scraps you had to make all those stars.
I love this! One of these days I'll be making one similar.
