Quilts of September #3

Orphan Block Quilt
42 x 58

Last month I gathered all shapes and sizes of blocks from The Orphanage that had red in them.

I quilted it on my DSM with spirals in red thread. The binding came from the quilt back trimmings box. I used trimmings I found with red and white in them - most of them checks and plaids. I stitch the binding down by machine on these smaller donation quilts. I use a blanket stitch because I don't like how my bindings look when I try sewing them down with a straight line (that looks crooked on the back).

The backing is pieced. A friend sent me that black zig zaggy fabric some time ago and I've kept it in the backing stack for donation quilts. Time to use it!  Someone with the Sunshine Online Quilt Guild was recently offering up a box of 12 inch blocks so I snatched those up to use some in pieced backings. A few crumb blocks with red in them from that box of blocks were added to the backing.

This one will go to Quilts Beyond Borders (QBB) so I've added a label as required.

QBB is currently collecting quilts for Comfort Cases and the  Navajo Nation . QBB also recently started collecting quilts for 150 Afghan refugee families in Washington State.  QBB may also still be collecting for Syrian refugees as that has been an ongoing initiative for quite awhile.

And on to the next!
(How many will I finish in September????)

Love it! I wonder after all the orphan blocks that have come to life in quilts these last 2 years.....how small is the orphanage? Will it be empty soon?

You amaze me :-)

Like Elle, I wonder if the orphan block bins will ever run dry.

Thanks for the Quilts Beyond Borders link. I've been looking for a place to send some of my excess quilts. Will look at my stash of already made quilts and see if any fit their criteria.
