Two Tops!

Two Tops
Each 42 x 60

These blocks were given to me a few months ago. I do not know the original intent of the maker or makers but I did have fun playing with them.   I couldn't decide if I should make one big comfort quilt or two smaller comfort quilts.  I decided on two because the blocks are so nice, bright and happy - perfect for some kiddos who could use a quilty hug.  There's even a few blocks left over for the orphanage. Next month the theme in my sewing space is "Orphans" so maybe the remaining blocks will show up in a quilt top next month.

Transformations

Stars
6 inch finished

A couple of years ago I made over 300  three inch Square in Square (SIS) blocks as one of my Rainbow Scrap Challenge (RSC) projects.  I divided them up into piles for three different quilts - #1 Stars, #2 Happy Blocks and #3 SIS alternating with Squares.

Yellow is the RSC color of the month so I transformed some yellow SIS into Stars.

Happy Blocks
6 inch finished
and a couple of
Stars

I also turned a few SIS into Happy Blocks.

Squared Away
7.5 inch finished

And four little 3 inch finished Broken Dishes blocks were transformed into a Squared Away block.

It's A Top!

Scrappy Snowball in Snowballs
It's a top!
37.5 x 49.5

Gosh, this week has not been as productive as last week. You know...one of those weeks when life throws you a few lemons and you don't have quite enough sugar to make lemonade. Well, I'm hoping to have some lemonade pretty soon. I'm hoping next week maybe life will be a bowl of cherries.

Well, despite those lemons I did get a top made this week.
Scrappy Snowball in Snowball blocks used more of those 2 inch squares I was gifted.

See the Snowballs formed by the 2 inch squares?

It's A Top!

Basket Weave
42 x 48
It's a top!

Yellow is the Rainbow Scrap Challenge (RSC) color of the month. I looked in my yellow scrap bag and saw just a few bits and pieces of this and that to use up this month.  I did have a set of Basket Weave pieces accumulated from some scrap processing in reds, yellows, browns and oranges just waiting for a fabric to weave them together and noticed a yellow striped piece of fabric shouting "me, me" so calculated how much I would need and there was a bit more than enough...surprise! surprise!

I like what I call the Basket Weave block because you can use almost any size rectangle and that rectangle can consist of anything from squares, strings, four patches, etc.   Then you just need to figure out the length/width of rectangles for the sides.  In this case I used 3.5 x 6.5 center rectangles and 2 x 6.5 rectangles for the sides to equal a 6.5 unfinished block.

It's A Top!

It's a top!
Bright Hopes
42 x 60

I acquired 32 six inch (finished) blocks and lots of pieces.   I know this block as Bright Hopes and there are several tutorials out there for it if you care to Google it.  I've made the blocks before so didn't need a tutorial.   Since there were a lot of pieces already cut I decided to make 38 more blocks. I did need to cut some black block centers and just a few more pieces to make the 38 blocks.

And now I have another top to add to the TBQ (To Be Quilted) mountain.

It's A Top!

Sashed Sixteen Patch
57 x 67.5

It's a top!

This is another top that used up a lot of those gallon bags of 2 inch squares I've been talking about lately. First I made Sixteen Patch blocks.

Then I added lime green sashing that consistes of a strip of four squares between 2 lime green strips. And the corner stones are nine patches that include lime green squares.

For the outside borders I did not have enough lime green fabric left for the little Nine Patches so I made scrappy Nine Patches of 2 inch squares.

It kind of looks like it might glow in the dark!

And now there's another top ready for quilting!

And sew on...

It's A Top!

Paper Chain
42 x 48
It's a top!

A few days ago I was assessing what was left of the two gallon bags of 2 inch squares I was gifted within the last year.  I decided to use the pastel squares with a pink floral fabric.

This month the theme in my sewing space is "Free Range" and that means I'll work on whatever suits my fancy.  Some days lately I haven't felt like I've had a fancy.

I didn't want to commit myself to anything other than free range this month because I know this month I have a LOT of things going on that might keep me from doing too much in the sewing space.  But you never know and it's best to go with the flow...
