BIG Prints Series #4

Patriotic Text fabrics happens to be what I used this time for my BIG print series.

Now I have a flimsy 60 x 75!

I've been trying to use some of the BIG prints that have been lingering in the stash for awhile.  This is the fourth flimsy in the series using the Double Sawtooth block at Quilter's Cache- perfect for BIG prints with the 9.5 inch center square.

This time I mixed things up while making the top and I changed the orientation of HSTs on alternate blocks.

I've been trying to use up all of my holiday fabrics and I consider the patriotic prints as holiday fabrics in my stash. I scraped the bottom of the barrel to be able to have enough of the text prints for the centers.

One block had to have a symbol instead of text.

And so now my patriotic print box (banker box size) is finally almost empty.

And as far as BIG prints go I think I will make one more for this series. I'll leave you wondering what that BIG print will be.

Mystery Quilt A11 - It's a Flimsy!

It's a flimsy!

I wasn't going to make any more mystery quilts. BUT I saw that there is an ongoing need for Quilts of Valor PLUS I happened to have some patriotic prints on hand.  So I used up a lot of patriotic print bits and pieces and made a scrappy version of A11. I think I have mostly low volume patriotic prints left.

It probably will not get quilted and donated until next year. I am short on backings and have a big stack of tops already made that need backings. I'll assess my needs after the first of the year and probably purchase only the fabric I think I will need for backings after that.

A11 -- Clue #1

Seventeen blocks for clue #1

My finished quilt will be for Quilts of Valor.
I'm using odds and ends of patriotic fabrics.
Clue #2 will be released tomorrow.

Experimenting

I issued myself a Holiday Cheer challenge to use my holiday fabrics this year.  That includes patriotic fabrics.  I made two quilts this year that need finishing that used patriotic fabrics but still have quite a bit of fabric left in the box. I'm short on light prints but have lots of reds and blues.  I've had a Triangles Galore tutorial bookmarked for quite awhile so thought I would give it a try. I didn't use the measurements or template in the tutorial - I used my kaleidoscope ruler instead and 4 inch strips of fabric.  They went together easily so I will make more. I haven't decided on what to use for corner fabrics. I'll decide after I make more blocks. They finish at around 14 inches so I won't need many.

8-12 inches of snow predicted for today from Winter Storm Bruce and it's snowing snowballs right now. Guess I'll go sew.
