Green Bits and Pieces

The Rainbow Scrap Challenge (RSC) color of the month is sage/forest green but I'm using all shades of green found in the scrap bag.  I mostly worked with 3.5 inch and 2 inch scraps this month.

I've been making these X and + blocks for a couple of years. This time around I had a lot of green scraps to use.

Hopefully by this year end I'll have enough blocks in all colors of the rainbow for a big quilt around 60 x 80.

I've been making these Buckeye Beauty blocks for awhile too. I've been making them with scraps in the color of the month plus old men's shirts or darker multicolor scraps. The greens came out of the scrap bag and the blocks in other colors came from scraps left from some of my latest projects like my latest Flower Baskets.

8  Patch Blocks

I cut pieces for these when I am processing scraps that are the appropriate size which is either 2.5 or 3.5 and enough for four pieces. I keep processed scrap pieces cut and in the project box with the blocks. At year end I will see how many blocks I have an assemble some donation quilts. The greens came out of the scrap bag I'm working with this month and the rest...

...came out of the project box. Might as well sew them up all at once.

Three inch finished Bow Ties.

I've been making these for awhile. The green ones came out of this month's scrap bag. The rest I cut while trying to empty out my old 2 inch scrap bin. I was working on emptying that while I was making my Paper Chains quilt top.  I'm working on a big quilt maybe about 90 x 90 so maybe 900 blocks is my goal. No hurry to get the top finished. I'm just enjoy the process.

Then a few weeks ago I saw Cynthia (Quilting is More Fun Than Housework blog) making what she called Switch Plate blocks that finish at 3 x 5 inches.   I thought they were cute so decided to try some. I cut four 1.5 inch pieces off of my 3.5 inch scraps to make them.  I have a couple of other RSC projects that use 1.5 inch scraps already in the works and my 1.5 inch scrap bin is almost empty which was my goal so I will put them with my blocks made from 1.5 inch scraps.  Then next year for RSC I think I will mostly be making small blocks and cut either 1.5 or 2 inch pieces off my scrap chunks to make those blocks in the color of the month.   Well, that's the plan for now.

And sew on...

And sew on indeed! As always, your post is a feast of wonderful scraps. Love the 8 patches, I am definitely going to make some. And those switch plate blocks are really wearing down my resistance.

I especially like the color-controlled scrappiness of your x-plus blocks and the way the plus blends into the mix instead of screaming forth.

You are always so busy, busy, busy. Just wondering, how di you store all you projects on the go, bags, boxes, shoved in the cupboard?

I like those switch plate blocks. The 1.5 inch strips are in courthouse steps blocks this year, but they will need a new project for next year.....

Do like your x and + blocks, they will make a great quilt. Interestingly I saw a similar block to the Switch Plate one but the girl, Pola, called it a Keyhole block and she made the sides wonky - really effective too. As always you have done an amazing amount of sewing - I’ve not done one stitch this week.
