This is another Rainbow Scrap Challenge (RSC) quilt. I made blocks in 2025 in the RSC color of the month with scraps long enough in the 2.5 and/or 4.5 inch width scrap bins 

I quilted it on my sewing machine with horizontal and vertical lines.

A little quilting marathon is going on here in March . Soon I will have boxes of comfort quilts to send off to two of my favorite charities that provide quilts for kids  - Wrap-A-Smile  (WAS)  and      Quilts Beyond Borders.  (QBB).

Wrap-A-Smile (WAS) partners with Rotaplast International.

 Rotaplast International, Inc. is committed to helping children and families worldwide by eliminating the burden of cleft lip and/or palate, burn scarring, and other deformities.

Quilts Beyond Border (QBB) quilts go to many different initiatives both foreign and domestic...foster care, refugees, Indian reservations, orphanages, women's recovery centers...you will just have to go read the QBB blog because I can't remember them all.

Boo Boo Patch

I now have 168 blocks out of a goal of 260. 

The Rainbow Scrap Challenge (RSC) color of the month is yellow. I don't have many yellow scraps but do have a whole lot of different RSC blocks in the works so I'm spending this month getting caught up on some blocks I didn't get around to making with pink (January) and blue (February).

I call them Boo Boo patches because a long time ago I meant to measure and cut my strip sets for 18 patch blocks like are in my recent finish.  What a big mistake (Boo Boo) that was! But I decided the blocks were cute and have been making them with 1.5 inch scraps long enough ever since.

Easy Breezy

I started making these this year and have 29 blocks toward a goal of 120 or 130.

I now have 37 blocks toward a goal of 63. 

All of these blocks are going into comfort quilts that will end up close to 60 x 80.

In The Pink Again

Made from 2.5 or 4.5 inch width scraps

I now have 19 blocks and target is 63.

Posies

Pieces cut from floral scrap chunks. 

I now have 43 blocks. Target is 63 blocks.

Posie corner cut offs got made into little Quarter Square Triangles (QSTs). I haven't trimmed the dog ears off yet. After I do they will go into a box with all the other QSTs made from cut offs over the years and someday they will all get made into a quilt. 

Wonky Windmills

Made with 4.5 or 5 inch width scraps. 

I made a pile of them last year and made one child sized quilt top mostly from novelty windmills. I divided up the ones left over after that into a pile of florals and a pile of geometric, etc for two twin sized quilts.   Two of these will go into the floral pile and the rest into geo,etc. 

Target for both quilts is 63 blocks. I now have 20 floral and 23 geo, etc. blocks.

REMEMBER, TREASURE, GROW, READ (my words of the year)

One of the seven different Amaryllis my husband gifted me is in bloom. There's one stalk with two blooms open and two more flowers on that stalk ready to open. And there's another stalk!  It is getting top heavy. This one came in it's own plastic pot along with coconut coir for the planting medium. I might have to find a big rock to put in the pot to keep it from tipping over. 

 

This And That And Then Some

Orange is the Rainbow Scrap Challenge (RSC) color of the month so I have been mostly working with orange scraps but at times a few other colors of scraps snuck in. 

Cheerios

10 inch blocks

I've been making these blocks from 4.5 inch and 2.5 inch scraps. At times I've had 4 squares in each size in my squares bin to use to make the blocks. 

Wonky Stars

4.5 inch

I've been making the Cheerios with "flippy corners". The cut off pieces are being used in little 4.5 inch Wonky Stars. I cut squares for the blocks from scraps when I can and kit them up with the star points to make them as leader/enders

While I was in the 2.5 inch scraps I made some of these blocks. They can also be made with 4.5 inch scraps. 

Twilight Flock

6 inches

The Flying Geese are made with 2.5 inch scraps with 1.5 inch black sides.

Windmills

4 inch

Last week I made the blocks with 1.5 inch scraps but this week I made them with 2.5 inch scraps. 

16 Patch

Made with 2 inch width scraps. All blocks contain green plus another color. 

Coin Strips

3 inch wide made with 2 inch width scraps. 

Various lengths.

I have not been ironing these. I will iron them when I put the columns together. I have a box of them now so maybe I'll be able to make a quilt soon. 

4 Patches

3.5 inch unfinished

Each block contains black, white and one other color. I will alternate these with 3.5 inch solid squares. 

Shoofly

7.5 inch

Made with 4 inch width scraps. I have not had any blocks in process using 4 inch scraps. When sorting scraps I receive from others I've been throwing all strips this size into the box. It is now full so I am working on emptying it now. This is one of the blocks I'll be making to use those scraps. 

Broken Dishes

Another block I'll be making with 4 inch width scraps. 

Crossroads

All blocks will have a brown cross with red center. The blocks will be made with 3.5 or 4.5 inch scraps.

I started making these blocks in 2021to use up 1930s reproduction and shirt scraps. Whenever I came across 2.5 inch or 3.5 inch width '30s or shirt scraps enough to cut 4- 2.5 x 3.5 rectangles I did. Then after I started accumulating a variety of rectangles I started making blocks. 

 This year I cut fabrics enough to finish off the blocks I needed for a top and made the top.

I quilted it on my DSM (Brother PQ1500) with ribbons/streamers.

The binding is scrappy.

The backing is the last of the plaid yardage I bought back when Hancock's fabric went out of business.

It's a top!

The blocks have been in my SAR (Some Assembly Required) bin since last year.  The blocks finish at 6 x 8 inches and are made of two sets of four rectangles 2.5 x 3.5 inches. Although they could be strip pieced I prefer to cut pieces to size first and sew them together especially since some of the rectangles in the shirts had to be cut separately because there was not one piece long enough for a strip. 

This is one of several block sets I made last year when I was working with '30s repro fabrics and old shirts and other plaids. 

This month the theme in my sewing room is 1930s so this one made it out of the SAR and into the TBQ (To Be Quilted) pile and may even get finished by the end of the month if I find a backing.

Three More Make It To The Finish Line

Three Eight Patch Quilts

Eight patches were made from 2.5 x 3.5 inch  rectangles - four each in two different fabrics.  I made these as a Rainbow Scrap Challenge project for over a year.  I first cut some rectangles when the scraps happened (either 2.5 inch or 3.5 inch widths) and put them into the Parts Department. Then after that each month I matched up scraps in the RSC color of the month to some of the rectangles in Parts Department and made Eight Patches.  After I had a big pile of them I decided to see how many quilts I could make. 

All are quilted with spirals and swirls on my DSM with a natural colored thread. 

This month's theme in the sewing room has been KIDS! KIDS! KIDS! and I've been working on quilts to donate for kids.   Some will be donated locally and some will go to Quilts Beyond Borders and go to a variety of initiatives.  A few will be held back for gifts because we come from a large family and someone is always having a baby. I think the grandchild generation for us is about coming to a close and the great grandchild generation is slowly starting.    Also this year I hope to send a box of quilts to any children's charity listed at GiveBackBox that accepts quilts.
