Diagonal Bars Flimsy

It's a flimsy!
65 x 85

I won these Diagonal Bars blocks in a May 2014 Block Lotto. They have been sitting around because I could never figure out how to put them together for a nice sized quilt without having to make a bunch more. In an effort to finally move several sets of Block Lotto winnings forward I decided to add sashing. You probably know that I don't really like making borders or sashing but these blocks kept telling me they had to have some type of sashing. I decided to mimic the blue and cream bars. Then I was going to add square cornerstones but they looked kind of clunky. So I mimicked the hst corners of the blocks and made little snowballs for the cornerstones.

There was quite a variety of blues from light to bright to dark so I tried to arrange them with the lightest on top, bright in the middle and dark on the bottom.

I have a few very light blue blocks (maybe six of them) left over for when I piece a backing.

Now I think I may use some strings and make a different version of those Diagonal Bars without the sashing.

Looks like a lot of work involve in your sashing and snowball cornerstones but so worth all that effort. A lovely flimsy ! And now another idea has popped into your head too.

Looks great and a very creative way to set the blocks! I think this block might be in consideration for RSC2022...thanks for the inspiration (and link)!

Love this quilt! At first I thought it was all the same blue, but then I remembered whose quilt it was and looked closer. I like the way you set it and the sashing and cornerstones really add a lot of visual appeal. Just curious, have you ever made a 2 color quilt?

This looks great, but I don't think I would have had the patience to make all those little snowball blocks.
