Dove In The Window

In the past I used to make my Rainbow Scrap Challenge (RSC) blocks from scraps in bins stored by fabric width. I've emptied most of those by making quilts and now I'm working from scrap chunks sorted by color. "Chunks" are larger than a 4.5 width of fabric and less than a Fat Quarter (FQ).

This month's RSC color is light and bright blue. But I used all shades of blue floral scraps to make my Dove in the Window blocks. I started making these late last year so I'm hoping I'll have enough of these 10.5 inch finished blocks in a rainbow of colors by year end for a nice big vintage-y looking quilt.

A few blocks each month from scraps and before you know it...a quilt is born!

This looks like a great block for using up scraps, and you certainly had a good selection of blue chunks.

Great collection of blue blocks! If you come anywhere near making that many blocks each month, you should have more than enough for a big quilt at the end of the year.

Great selection of blue fabrics. Goodness this will be a huge quilt if you use all the rainbow Dove in the window blocks.

I've always loved that pattern, and thought I would make it someday. Haven't yet, but I may print your picture of yours so that I'll be reminded! I have big white winged doves that come to my bird feeders, and they remind me by flying into my windows when the feeder gets empty! Maybe I'll get at least a wall hanging made someday. ---"Love"

I’m constantly amazed at the depth of your scraps! I love this block and see so many secondary design possibilities. Do you know yet how you want to join them in the top?

Wow! If you make this many every month it will be a great size and really neat!

I like that block a lot! They're pretty in your different blues, too. It will be fun to see the quilt you create out of them.

Second picture, bottom right, blueberries. I had that fabric. I purchased it years and years ago from Walmart. I LOVED it and still do. It washed up nicely and just felt nice to the touch. I made a two color mystery quilt out of it and a solid green. I still love that quilt.

Decades ago Mother read to us kids the Little House series of books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. I recall that in one of them Laura tells of sister Mary making Dove in the Window blocks, and I always wondered which of the many by that name she was making. Yours are lovely.

Great blocks! I think you'll be successful at year end with a beautiful floral quilt.

A fantastic and intriguing block. I had to blow up (I have a touchscreen laptop) to determine exactly how this is made.

Great use of scrap!!!
