In the Hoop: Old MacDonald Farm Sampler

Old MacDonald Farm Sampler is now in the hoop.

I'm not quite sure how I'm going to quilt it all.  Right now I'm using regular hand quilting thread but I might switch to perle #12 or #8 for parts of it like the mountains.

I've quilted the barn with straight lines for the most part.

I've also stitched 1/4 inch around a hen and her chicks to make them stand out a little from the background. I think I'll quilt in a V for wings on the chicks as well as give them some straight line stitches for tail feathers and maybe give them a french knot eye.   Then I' really not sure what I will do with the green "grass" background.  Time will tell.

I have planned out my quilting design for my OMMS quilt too -- there are only a few ahead of it so maybe by early next year. LOVE that you are hand quilting yours!

I like the way you quilt " on the hoof" as the fancy takes you. Very creative.

Looks good - I really like your idea for the hen and chicks. I didn't get my sampler finished but who knows....anything can happen.

The green background needs chicken scratching. I think they refer to it as seed quilting. But a simpler variation would be so fun on this quilt. It is so playful!

seeing your design, color and quilting choices.
Great fun Cathy.

Oh well, if you are hand quilting this, it is going to be doubly nice! It really is charming.

Those chicks are so cute! Quilting in little wings is a great idea.

I like the idea of adding detail to your chickens with stitching. I guess you'll work out the grass as you go along.
