It Started With Four Pineapple Log Cabin Blocks Made Long Ago

Trash Talking

It's finally a flimsy!!!!

This month the theme in my sewing space to move UFOs forward is "log cabins and variations". This is a very old UFO that started out with four Pineapple Log Cabin blocks.

I made the four Pineapple Log Cabin blocks back in 2016 intending to make more for a quilt called Shiloh from the Fons and Porter book Scrap Quilts. I figured the name Shiloh didn't really fit the quilt I was making. At the time I knew a very nice lady in quilty blog land  (now deceased) who loved civil war reproduction fabrics and worked almost exclusively with those fabrics. She told me once that she thought the color turquoise was "trashy" so I called my quilt Trash Talking in her honor. 😉

Well then I decided I didn't like the Pineapple Log Cabin blocks after all. It seemed there was not enough contrast in the blocks to make the quilt Shiloh(aka Trash Talking) I wanted to make. So off into the orphanage the blocks went.

Fast forward to 2019. I decided it was time for some Trash Talking so I pulled the four blocks out of the orphanage to use in a Medallion quilt.  I first alternated the blocks with some Nine Patches...

...then I added a border all around of three inch Snowballs and Nine Patches.

At 45 inches square I ran out of ideas for where to go next so put Trash Talking in the UFO bin. And there it has been since 2019.

This month's theme of "log cabins and variations" made me take a look at moving this oldie forward. I added a simple border all around with Snowball cornerstones.

And then since I don't really like square quilts I added some nine inch Nine Patches to the top and bottom.

And now I guess I need to finish Trash Talking!

And sew on...
