The February Rainbow Scrap Challenge (RSC) color of the month is orange. I usually start out the month by digging through my scrap chunks (pieces greater than a 4.5 square and less than a fat quarter) to cut pieces for my blocks that have different sized pieces or are made of larger pieces.
These Churn Dash blocks finish at 13.5 and are made of 2 inch and 5 inch pieces.
Double X Mosaic and Snowballs that finish at 4 inches.
This is my second year of making these blocks inspired by a vintage quilt.
These pieces require 2.5 and 1.5 inch parts.
Wishing Rings that finish at 3.5.
This is another project started last year and continuing into this year. It takes a lot of them to make a big quilt.
I cut pieces for these from scraps from the 3.5 and 1.5 scrap bins if I have them. Otherwise I cut from scrap chunks. The center which is 2 inches unfinished and the corners which are 1.5 inch squares are usually cut from a 3.5 inch scrap. The sides usually come from the 1.5 inch scrap bin.
Then since I was in the 3.5 inch scrap bin I made Broken Dishes blocks that finish at six inches. I think this may be my third year of making these blocks. Someday they will make it into a quilt. For now they are a good use of scraps.
When I was finished with those I cut any orange 3.5 inch scraps left in the bin into 3.5 inch squares and anything less than a 3.5 inch square was sewn together into a strip. I've been making those strips for years and have quite a few of them now. At year end I will make one or maybe even two Chinese Coin type quilts...maybe called Loose Ends? or End of the Line? or...
There's my little stack of 3.5 inch squares. And while I was cleaning up scrap chunks I found a lot of pieces that were 5 inches wide so cut 5 inch squares.
I think this week I will deal with orange 2 inch scraps. Next week you will see the results.
Until then you may want to see how others are using their scraps:

your projects look great in orange. I don't seem to have as many orange scraps
I haven't looked to see what orange pieces I have I will need to do that soon
ooh la la! gorgeous orange blocks!
Lots of fun orange blocks, especially the orange with the teal. Those blocks really pop! Happy scrappy stitching this month.
Haha, I like "End of the Line." You're always so clever with names!
Isn't it interesting how orange goes from Halloween orange to rust and back to peach. And they all work together!
Great scarps and therefore great blocks that will eventually become great quilts.
Great idea to start with larger scrappy chunks--that Snoopy fabric is a-dorable!!;)) lovely blocks hugs, Julierose
Love your ongoing rainbow challenge blocks. Like you, I have a box of blocks that I add to weekly until I have enough blocks to make a quilt or two or three. That box is also a good source of blocks for gifts, quick pot holders.
Sheesh - I just finished up my greens and you are already way into your oranges on the FIRST of the month no less. They look so good.
After sewing up my selvages, I always start with my larger scraps, too, and work down to the smaller ones. You’ve got such a great variety of scraps and block ideas!
Wow, great ideas, and great scraps! Thanks for all the inspiration!
I really enjoy seeing all the different projects you work on each month. Even though I see the blocks every month, I am always shocked when you pull out a finished top or quilt! You have lots of beautiful projects in the works.
Holy cow! I still have green scraps on the cutting table and you're already well into the orange!! Somebody here is a slacker...and I'm pretty sure its ne. 🙂
Me...not ne.
Fat fingers on a small phone screen.
Four projects so far plus you are thinking of working with 2in squares next? Shall I call you Wonder Woman, perhaps!
Wow you got a lot of orange done this week!. I really like the broken dishes blocks and cant wait to see them in a quilt.
Lots of pretty orange scraps in your blocks! I really like the Wishing Rings!
I can't wait to see 'the end of the line' quilt! You are too funny! Lots of pretty orange hanging around at your house.
You surely must be running out of scraps in all colors! I've never known anyone to make so many really pretty quilts from just scraps! You take the cake! ---"Love"
You are on the ball with your RSC blocks. I haven't even gotten out my orange scraps yet. I really like those churn dash blocks!
Lots of fun orange blocks there from your scraps....
What a great variety of orange scraps and block projects. I have a small chunk of that orange Snoopy fabric in the first photo.

I like your process and it seems to work very well for you.
I especially like the Double X and Snowball combo and the Wishing Rings. They both look good in orange. The Wishing Rings would look great in multi-colored scraps, but it would take forever to make a bed size quilt. It might be a good leader/ender though.
Love how you work through your colour scraps in such an ordered fashion. Orange blocks are looking great.
What with using orange in my Frolic, I'm up to my elbows in orange scraps all over my cutting mat. And here you are with bucketsful of inspiration! I need to roll up my sleeves and try to keep up!
Loads of happy orange happening in your world. I like how these projects have been progressing over the years.
Wow!
