Jack's Chain
66 x 80
Hobbs Heirloom Cotton Batting
Hand quilted
Finished in March 2016
A Wedding Quilt for the hope chest for my grandson. He's only 7 so it will be in the hope chest for awhile. I like to plan ahead!
This was two years in the making. A lot of the little 3 inch 9 patches were swapped.
The background (hexagon shapes) is Kona Navy.
For the hand quilting I used a lot of different colored threads and LOTs of size 10 quilting betweens. In the nine patches I quilted an X and I quilted 1/4 inch inside the connecting triangles in navy thread.
In the hexagons I used a stencil of four connecting hearts and stitched in different colors of thread.
I'm no expert at hand quilting...in fact this is one of the few quilts that I have hand quilted and not done big stitch quilting in perle #8...but I'm pleased with how it turned out. If I had to make one change it would have been to stitch in the ditch around the connecting triangles instead of 1/4 inch inside. I actually have another Jack's Chain ufo in neutrals and browns so will remember that for next time.
Another thing I didn't think I could do was the scalloped binding. But it did happen much to my surprise!
And now we have come to the backing and the end of my blog post.
I've entered this into the Hand Quilted Category at Blogger's Quilt Festival.

Love this quilt. The colors just sing music to my ears! YUMMY!
I adore all your quilts, and this one is one of my favorites! (And good for you for planning ahead! I'm still trying to finish my youngest daughter's high school graduation quilt and she's been out of college for several years...)
I love this quilt! So much pretty color! And good for you on the scalloped border. It looks great!
Really neat design. Love how it looks. So many little nine patches!
I love this quilt. It's amazing!!!
Love your quilt.
I started hand piecing nine patches.....they are larger.....had no idea what to do with them.....This is beautiful....Thanks for the inspiration.
LOve it!! The scalloped binding is just perfect. Love the beautiful texture from the hand quilting too, it adds so much! As always, I'm in awe of your use of fabrics. You have a way of pulling together the most unlikely fabrics and making them look like they have belonged together for a very long time!
I love your quilt! ---"Love"
I love this quilt so much--awesome!
Beautiful, like all your scrappy creations. Great that you're planning ahead for your grandson.
The navy blue really makes all your scrappy colours glow. It's just lovely.
I love your Jack's Chain quilt... how wonderful for your gs to have a quilt for his future :) You are a talented piecer and doing swaps for variety I bet was fun! I hope to make one of these some day but not sure I could fly with just a pattern from Quilter's Cache... great for YOU though :) Thanks for sharing this at Amy's this season!!! Awesome and love the navy background and quilting thread in the triangles ;) Kathi
Love all the color in this quilt. Beautiful.
Colorful and beautiful as always!! Happy Festival!!
Very intersting piece....love the colour
Funny how my eye jumps to your quilts at the festival. Love the dark background with the vibrant colors Love that you took this not so easy block on! Good Luck
This one just jumped right out at me when I opened up the festival page. I also liked how you stated what you'd do differently next time (stitch in the ditch in the triangles) but I think it looks wonderful!!
