Butterfly Garden
It's just a flimsy for now.

Pattern is called Follow the Sun from Adding Layers: Color, Design, Imagination by Kathy Doughty.
I wanted to make it as a way to use up some of the butterfly fabrics from my stash but it hardly used any butterflies at all so I guess I see another type of butterfly quilt in my future.
For the background of each block I started out using some dark floral backing fabric left over from My Favorite Things Hexie Quilt as you can see here in those four darker batik squares.
I knew I probably wouldn't have enough of that fabric so some blocks have a darker butterfly fabric for parts of the background as you can see here...
...and here. I've had that floral fabric I used in the sashings for quite awhile too. It was heavily, heavily discounted so I bought several yards which is unusual for me.
Anyway...I love how it has turned out so far. Now I will see what I have that I can use for the backing (I'm trying to stay on a "no buy" diet) and then it will go into the hand quilting pile. Won't that be fun to quilt on a dreary winter day. Color is the best anti-depressant I know...right up there with butterfly gardens.

Definitely the perfect antidote to winter's monotone blahs!
(Why am I surprised at how many butterfly fabrics there are?)
Wow, wow, wow! Fabulous!
Lovely!
Love it. I have the book but have not made anything yet.
Such a quilt garden with all those florals. I wouldn't have thought of using the floral sashing. It really adds to your theme. And what fun to see the rick rack outlining the flower centers.
Wow! This is so rich, just like a garden at the peak of the season. I love it, even if it hasn't used enough butterflies. The sashing fabric is such a bold choice, but pulls it all together - very clever!
This is just my sort of quilt - a riot of colour, just like being out in the garden. It's stunning..
My type of quilt too! Butterflies in a garden, awesome. I love that fabric for the sashing, I would have bought lots of it too. I just love color and the explosion of this one is super!
I forgot to say, I have a ton of butterfly fabrics I have saved up as well and need to use shortly, would love to have one that came out looking as good as yours did!
The colors in your quilt are so rich and vibrant... they just glow. It's a gorgeous quilt.
Love your colorful quilt.Fantastic!
Color is THE BEST antidepressant - you are SO right. Congrats on the quilt top!
That will be a perfect winter quilting project - such a bright and cheery quilt!
