Blogger's Quilt Festival - Hand Quilted Pickle Dish

Pickle Dish
67 x 67

Pattern from Kaffe Fassett's book Quilt Romance

This is a wedding quilt for my granddaughter's hope chest.  (She's only 10 years old now so it will be a few years before she sees it)

It is hand quilted.  I used stencils to mark some of the quilting and in other sections.

I'm still working to perfect my stitches. Right now I'm trying for consistent size. Later I will try for smaller and smaller stitches.  I love hand quilting. It is so relaxing and gives a quilt a lovely texture.  And somehow I think it puts me in touch with my ancestors.

As with most of my quilts...this was a learning experience...curves, paper piecing, hand quilting...I'm hoping I'm still alive when my granddaughter gets married but if not I will be there in the spirit of this quilt.

This is my entry for the Hand Quilted Category at

A beautiful quilt! I love the idea of getting the grandchildren's wedding quilts finished early. Need to get started on some myself since I'll most likely be in my early 90s by the time they get married.

Ya know, I've been looking at all the pickle dishes out there in the world, and teetering on the brink of yes-yes-wanna-make and no-no-don't-fall-down-that-rabbithole. But I think this one is pushing me right over the edge into gotta-make territory. It's just flat-out gorgeous!

Gorgeous! She is one lucky girl!

How beautiful it is! So bright and full of a feeling of hope when I look at it. It's everything a wedding quilt should be. And you have it done in plenty of time. =) A beautiful job. You are approaching hand quilting just exactly right. Even first! Switching to a smaller size needle helps once you've established rhythm and evenness. Or it helped me get smaller, anyway. I can't go quite as small any more! LOL

What a kind Grandma / Nana you are, thinking ahead for your granddaughter. I'm sure she'll love it with all those beautiful Kaffe fabrics in it. The hand quilting really does make it special, and it also means that there's a plenty of you in that quilt too. Lovely.
