A Finish: May Baskets

May Baskets
70 x 82
Hand quilted

This started with two different swaps long ago  - baskets in 30's reproduction fabrics but in two different sizes.   So first I brought the smaller seven inch baskets up to the nine inch size of the other by adding sashing strips to the sides.

I hand quilted about 1/4 inch outside the smaller baskets...

...and hand quilted about 1/4 inch inside the fabrics in the larger baskets.

I used a  100% cotton white sheet with polka dots from the thrift store for the backing.  I pieced together some Hobb's Heirloom Cotton Batting for batting.  I like to use that when I hand quilt.

And the binding was scrappy.

And now I can mark two UFOs off the list!

Hot weather has arrived so it's time to work on smaller projects next.

Beautiful quilt! What a great idea to combine the two sizes of blocks that way. I continue to be amazed at how much you get done!

This is such a pretty quilt, Cathy! I like the scrappy setting triangles, along with all the baskets. Is this one a keeper, or will you donate it?

Baskets are such a fun traditional block. They look great with the hand quilting.

Beautiful quilt! Such a good idea to enlarge the smaller blocks so you could use both sizes of blocks. Hand quilting is lovely. Love the spotted sheet backing.
