Lately I've been trying to use up my box of waste triangles. One of the blocks I've been using them in is a vintage one called Ocean Waves.
It's pretty easy to sew a waste triangle to the corners of 2.5 inch red squares.
On the other hand when you use 2.5 inch 30s repro scraps and actually mix with muslin and make HSTs for an Ocean Waves block there's a whole lot of points to match.
And then there's the 1.5 inch scraps. Some of them go into Spider Web blocks like these...
...with spider web centers.
While other 1.5 inch scraps like those 30s repros do their own thing in a different type of Spider Web block.
Of course you have to actually make a bunch of quilts in order to have a bunch of scraps so sometimes things get stalled.
Hey, it's Scraptastic Tuesday! What are you working on? Are you using up those scraps?
Other people are. I dare you to go look.

I'm going to have to try that. I have a shoebox full of triangles of all sizes. I really love how yours looks with the red background, I think I have a bunch of red I bought for something I never did. This could be a way to use some!
I totally want to copy you and do those little waste triangle Ocean waves blocks! Love it!
I love your spiderwebby spiderwebs! And all your other blocks, too. You always have the best scrap projects going on! (And now I'm thinking what a great idea black centers would be for a spiderweb quilt I want to make someday...)
Wonderful scrappy projects!
I don't know which I prefer, the red or the blue, but I love the Ocean Waves setting (and without having to match corners - my idea of heaven).
Oh I love these blocks, almost better than the half square triangle version. Now that is a great use of scraps
I am in awe that you save those itty bitty triangles! I have to confess that mine go in the bin unless they were from really big squares to start with.
I have lots of waste triangles and because of you I started saving them. I have since realized that I probably won't use them myself, so eventually you should expect a package in the mail.
All lovely but I think your red quilt is my favourite and I have a box of triangles! Thanks for linking up to #scraptastictuesday
Your red scrappy quilt is fabulous. Love how the scraps look buried in all that lovely red!
Great, innovative quilting. I especially love the red quilt. (Linked from Sane&Crazy.)
I meant she can quilt...duh.
Darn it, Cathy. I'm developing a love/hate relationship with your blog. The waste triangles are adorable, especially on that tomato red. But now I may need to start saving them, too. Grr! ;-)
So fun--I've gotta get out my tub of waste triangles--thanks for the inspriration!
I like your triangles against the red. I tend to sew the waste triangles before I cut them so I have to use whatever backgrouund the original quilt used.
