I've been making these little 3 inch spools since 2013. Maybe by the end of this year I will have enough for a large quilt. I figured I need 783 of them for a 81 x 87 quilt (blocks set 27 x 29). And with these 15 spools I now have 630 blocks - 146 of them in shades of blue.
While I was at it I dug into the 1.5 postage stamp collection and made three 49 patches.
This is the last blue week for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. Think I'll go see what everyone else has done to chase away the blues.

What a nice assortment ! :)
Wow, that is a lot of little blocks and seams to sew. But if anyone is up to the task, its you! Hope you have a lovely weekend, my friend!
Beautiful!
Oh, my goodness! 49 patches?!? If that doesn't chase away the blues, nothing will!
Not even the smallest scrap is wasted when you make the postage stamp blocks with 49 pieces. Great work.
I can barely imagine making 783 of any block! But I do love the idea of using the tiniest of scraps like this.
Three YEARS of 3" Spool blocks? I guess that means I've got a LONG way to go on my Tiny Nines. Wow!!!
Cathy, it's taking me a while to catch up with everyone after a few weeks of illness (nothing serious) - and boy have you been busy! I love your spool blocks and can hardly imagine how fiddly they must be to make and finish at 3"! That's dedication I think. The colours look perfect against your postage stamp blues too!
I really like your little spool blocks! They look like the perfect block to make if you only have afew minutes to sew.
At first I thought that three years is a long time, but then I realized how short a time its been. Aagh!
I can't wait to see your spools come together in a quilt top! That's a lot of spools and they are so cute! 1 1/2" squares? Wow!!! Great job!
Such tiny little spools. You made such beautiful blocks.
Aren't 49 patches terrific? They use up heaps of scrappy squares too. The one I made this week is made with 2" squares. That's small enough for me.
Good going with both blocks. You do have persistence to keep going to a goal. Keep up the good work!
Well done! I'd love to revisit the spool blocks someday too.
Your spools will make an awesome quilt, Cathy! I started my hourglasses earlier, in 2012, and I am ready to be done with them! But gosh, time flies, doesn't it?
Love the spools... I wish I would work on putting mine together cause they are so awesome!
