The First Flimsy of 2019

 It's a flimsy!
Triangle Tiles
82 x 92

This is a quilt inspired by a c. 1940-1950 quilt made by Stella Freeman Gillion in the collection of her grandson, Alan Childress.

I don't usually add borders but wanted to stay close to the original inspiration. And with the in mind I will probably hand quilt Baptist Fans.

Triangle Tiles

Triangle Tile blocks so far.  Lots more to come.

Quiltfolk Magazine now has a monthly pattern subscription available. Each month a vintage quilt is featured and a pattern based on the vintage quilt is included in the subscription as well as instructions for more modern version by various designers. I decided to give it a try and Triangle Tiles was the July vintage ( or source) pattern.  I'm using my 30s reproduction stash in red, yellow and blues with some browns mixed in.

So far I have received 3 different patterns, July-September. I was going to make all the vintage versions but was a little disappointed in the August edition because the instructions kind of strayed a lot from the vintage - it was simplified. And that's fine but I was drawn to the use of stripes in the vintage quilt and with the simplified version of the pattern stripes won't look the same. I have a stripe that would be perfect so I may work out how to use it myself.  Other than that so far I like the Quiltfolk Patterns and will be looking forward to new ones on the first of each month.
