It's a top!
Orphan Elroy
42 x 42
The four orphan blocks in the middle were given to me over a year ago. At the beginning of last month I decided to use them in a top. I then added the green and striped borders. I decided to make Nine Patches for the next border so pulled a few green scraps and a rust chunk and put them all together on the end of my ironing board. Then I had my end of August quilting marathon.
The September theme in my sewing space is "loose ends" so I picked up my little bundle, made my Nine Patches, added my border and tied up some loose ends.
And sew on...

Finished a book! The Mercer Girls by Libbie Hawker. It is historical fiction inspired by the true story of The Mercer Girls -women who chose to move from the east coast of the United States to the Seattle area in the 1860s at the invitation of Asa Mercer. Mercer, an American who lived in Seattle, wanted to "import" women to the Pacific Northwest to balance the gender ratio.
We have been having beautiful weather. It is so nice to work outside and enjoy the gardens.

Lovely finish on those big blocks, Cathy;)))
My whole stash is a "loose end" right now--hahahha--so I am working on getting it in usable condition so I can FIND thing!!...

The sunshine and low humidity are just wonderful! And Elroy's wonderful, too. Sets of orphan blocks like these can lead to innovative design.
As always, you really did pull out some creativity with these 4 blocks. Great job. I'm guessing you might quilt swirls when you get to the quilting. I'm glad your weather is getting a little cooler. We actually haven't had a too hot summer for the Houston area. That's my opinion because I limit myself to less than 30 minutes in the backyard! LOL
Orphan Elroy looks great. Those center blocks are interesting (and I bet a challenge to make, maybe why there were only 4 of them). Loose Ends was the name of our quilting group, which sadly discontinued when attendance dramatically fell, even after the pandemic receded. A few of us still get together almost weekly.

I just love Orphan Elroy!
