It's A Finish! Orphan Tobias

It's a finish!
Orphan Tobias
42 x 60

The orphan blocks are the six inch blocks in the Sawtooth Star centers.  Some were mine and some were sent to me by others.

When I made the top last December I decided to use yellow scraps for all of the star points.

I used 3.5 inch width scraps for the Star backgrounds. I made Flying Geese with yellow wings for the Star points. I cut the Geese wings using the Easy Angle ruler and cut the Geese bodies using the Easy Angle Companion ruler. When I use the Easy Angle Companion ruler I make the first cut of the strip with the Easy Angle ruler and then end up making extra HSTs. I've blogged about this several times in the past.

So anyway...this time I turned those extra HST parts into 6 inch Broken Dishes blocks and used that as a column in between the Stars in order to add to the width of the quilt.

I quilted it on my sewing machine with swirls.

The binding is scrappy yellow and the backing is a rusty colored woven look fabric.

And sew on...

REMEMBER, TREASURE, GROW, READ (my words of the year)

It's always fun to walk around in my gardens this time of year. There is always something new popping up every day.

Species or Wild Tulips

Daffodils

Another variety of Daffodil

Hellebore or Lenten Rose

Wood Hyacinth or Spanish Bluebells

Bloodroot

Wood Hyacinth or Spanish Bluebells

Hepatica or Liverwort

Guinea Hen Flower or Fritillaria

More Guinea Hen Flowers or Fritillaria. Sign says Forget-Me-Not but that is to remind me that I planted those Forget-Me-Not seeds around in this patch.

Another type of Species or Wild Tulip

Surprise! I don't know where this tulip came from. Squirrels must have planted it.

More Species or Wild Tulips. The garlic chives I planted to help deter deer and rabbits in this area look like they are swallowing up those poor tulips. Guess I need to weed out those chives or they will take over the whole area.

Jst such lovely stars--I especially like the one with the heart in the center--
I've tried unsuccessfully to grow Guinea Hens--they just don't take here; nor can i grow shrub roses it seems...my climbing one is finally doing well after transplanting it when we first arrived here--some 20 years ago now--unbelievable how fast time flies...
Your garden spots are coming into such beautiful blooms...
Hugs for a great Easter weekend...Julierose;)))

This is such a happy quilt. I love Tobias sunny disposition. I love the butterfly heart and the broken dish row. The garden is getting colourful too. Guinea Hen is an interesting flower. It's the first time I see one. It has a lovely hue and print. Gorgeous! Enjoy! ;^)

All of those early blooms are a sure sign of spring. I haven't heard of some of those plants. I really don't have enough land to plant a lot of variety so I'll just enjoy yours.

Love the tour of the spring flowers. I need to add some white or bi-color daffodils. All of mine are yellow. Also, I think those are regular hyacinths in both pictures. Wood hyacinths have smaller flowers and they defintely aren't Spanish Bluebells (which have spread everywhere here and are hard to eliminate because there are so many tiny bulblets around the bulbs that you can't get all of them when you try to dig them up). I like the added column of hourglass blocks with the sawtooth stars. Good way to widen the quilt a little bit.

What a great idea to use the bonus HST to create a column between the stars.
