 #103 was one of the UFO numbers drawn to work on this month. I had it listed in my spreadsheet as Framed Batik Four Patches - a really really old swap. 

 When I went to the project box to see how many blocks I had and what I needed to get the UFO to flimsy stage I found two different blocks in the box - the Framed Four Patches that finish at 8 inches and Batik Happy Blocks that finish at 7.5 inches. 

 Well, I could have pretended I didn't see those batik Happy Blocks since I didn't have them officially listed as a UFO in my spreadsheet but where is the challenge in that?  I decided to use all the blocks. Yesterday I posted what I'm doing with some of the official UFO #103 blocks - 24 inch Massachusetts blocks that call for 8.5 inch centers and those Framed Four Patches are 8.5 inches unfinished. Perfect!  Or so I thought. In the process of figuring out which Framed Four Patches to use I found that some of them were not all the correct 8.5 inch size. (Remember they were swapped blocks).   I don't really like trimming blocks but I decided I would trim the remaining Framed Four Patches to 8 inches and combine them with the Happy Blocks which were also swapped long ago but all the correct size. 

And now I have flimsy #103b for lack of a better name. It's probably going to be gifted or donated so it doesn't really need a name anyway. 

I think these swapped blocks were circa 2010 so it's nice to get them out of a project box and into quilts.

 A lot of these blocks are from a long ago swap. These eight inch blocks are 4.5 inch four patches in 30s reproduction fabrics framed with 2.5 inch white tone on tones or solids.  I used some of my 30s scraps from the Ocean Waves flimsy to make enough blocks for a twin sized quilt. 

 It was a pretty plain flimsy with more white than I care to see in a quilt any more so I decided to fancy it up some with some hand quilting in blanc perle #12.   I tied the center of the four patches. 

 Just for fun I also did not bury my beginning or ending knots but instead just left them to form little tufts here and there about the quilt. I couldn't get a really good pic of them. I'm pointing to one. 

 You can kind of see the little tufts in this photo also. 

With all that white I thought it would be a nice summer quilt - a quilt without batting.  I had a thrift store sheet in my stash so decided to use it for the backing. 

On a twin bed the backing can be flipped over at the head of the bed like so. 

Now I need to figure out what to put in the hoop next but in the mean time I've been doing a little applique- Sunflowers and Tulips.

I had forty-four eight inch blocks from a 2007 swap- 30s fabrics in the four patches framed with white on white.  After I finished my Ocean Waves flimsy earlier this month I had a lot of 2.5 inch scraps left over so decided to move this UFO forward and made fifty-five more blocks for a twin sized quilt. I'm not really a fan of a lot of white in quilts anymore but decided I might as well get it to flimsy stage instead of letting the blocks sit around any longer.  

I put this on my list to finish before the end of the year. I was going to machine quilt it with vertical lines closely spaced. Now that I see it I think it would make a nice summer quilt - backing with no batting - with some minimal big stitch quilting with white perle #12 which I happen to have on hand and maybe a tie in the middle of the four patches.  So maybe it won't be finished by year end. 

I still have a lot of 2.5 inch 30s scraps. I usually keep 30s and civil war repro scraps separate from other scraps. I guess they are a snobby bunch.  I'm considering mixing them in with the rest of the 2.5 inch scraps or I'll make some nine patches.  

I do know I will cut a 1.5 inch piece off the end of each and make a few of these Whatchamacallits that I've been making as a Rainbow Scrap Challenge project.  I've been trying not to repeat any fabrics in these blocks and I haven't used any 30s yet. I want a total of 84 blocks and so welcome the new scraps to make these.
