Rail Fence Finish

It's a finish!

Rail Fence

40 x 60

This is another "pieces and parts" quilt. Back in 2022 I received a few rectangles sewn together into pairs as well as a bunch of rectangle parts. I don't believe I had to add any scraps of my own to the mix. I was not sure of the maker's intent for the layout since not all blocks were light and dark but this nice little comfort quilt is what I came up with when I made the top way back in 2023.

I quilted it on my sewing machine with horizontal and vertical lines.

The binding is an olive green that looks ok binding a quilt but is kind of ugly in a block.

A green back.

I have finished my  August quilting marathon.

The quilts I have been finishing this month will go to Wrap-A-Smile

And sew on...

Broken Wheel Or Rolling Stone

Broken Wheel or Rolling Stone

9 inch finished

Aqua is the Rainbow Scrap Challenge ( RSC) color of the month. I have already used most of my aqua scraps so decided to work on a UFO with blocks of aqua, red, and purple. I set aside small chunks of fabric in those colors in a project box. I started making blocks in 2023. This month I now have met my goal of 48 blocks.

And sew on...

Another Ribbon Candy Finish

It's a finish!
Ribbon Candy
Aka Half Snowballs
42 x 60

I finished a version of Ribbon Candy earlier in the week that used 5.5 inch squares. For this one I used 6.5 inch squares.

I quilted it on the diagonals on my sewing machine.

The back.

Four Patch Finish

It's a finish!

Four Patch

40 x 50

I started this last year when I was working on emptying a box of 3 inch width scraps and squares. I made quite a few Four Patches and then set aside pieces for the rest. I finished those up this year.

I quilted it on the diagonals.

The backing is pieced and features Mr. Toad.
The binding is light neutral scrappy.

And sew on...

The weather has been beautiful and quite a bit cooler so I dug up some white and  purple fingerling  potatoes and purple carrots to put in with a roast for dinner tonight.

Ribbon Candy Finish

It's a finish!
Ribbon Candy
( aka Half Snowballs)
40 x 50

Last year I kitted up multiples of squares for three different Ribbon Candy quilts. This is the one with 5.5 inch squares and 2.5 inch corners. I made the top a few weeks ago.

I quilted it on my sewing machine with diagonal lines.

It has a pieced back.

Another Finish

It's a finish!
Happy Blocks or Framed Squares
42 x 54

This is what I call a "Pieces and Parts" quilt. In 2024 I received a baggie with 22 blocks and pieces cut for a few more. I found some scraps to use to make more blocks and in Dec. 2024 I completed the block set and put the set away in my SAR (Some Assembly Required) bin.

I quilted it on my sewing machine with horizontal and vertical lines.

The quilts I have been finishing this month will go to Wrap-A-Smile

I pieced the backing.

And sew on...

Oh joy!
The weather has been beautiful the last couple of days. I have been quilting for a bit in the early morning hours then head out to work in and enjoy the gardens the rest of the day. It has even been cool enough for me to resume big stitch hand quilting on my Soul Searching in the Rose Garden quilt for a few minutes in the evening after dinner and before bed. I usually wake up in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep so end up reading for awhile but the last two nights I have slept through the night.

Sawtooth Stars Finish

It's a finish!

Sawtooth Stars

40 x 56

8 inch blocks.

One of the things I decided to do with them was make Sawtooth Stars. I dug into my little box of 4.5 inch squares to look for a star center that kind of matched the Flying Geese bodies that would become the star points background. Then I dug into my 2.5 inch width scraps for a scrap that kind of matched the Flying Geese bodies and long enough to cut four 2.5 inch squares for the star corners. After I had my block background and center I again looked in my 2.5 inch width scraps for contrasting star points- a piece long enough to cut 8 star points with my easy angle ruler.

I quilted it on my sewing machine with diagonal, vertical and horizontal lines.

The back
. It is difficult to see that it is an aqua with paisleys. The binding is striped.

I started making blocks in 2023 so maybe this month I will be able to finish up blocks I need.

Only ten more blocks to go toward my goal of 48 blocks. I usually cut some and then sew some. I don't think I have ever cut all pieces for a quilt before I started on it. Well, now I have cut all the pieces for the remaining ten blocks. I am actually in quilting mode for the rest of August so not sure I will finish up blocks this week.

And sew on...

A String Quilt Finish

It's a finish!

String Quilt

40 x 50

I made this one with lots of novelty strings.

I made 10.5 inch blocks using a paper foundation.

Quite awhile ago someone gave me some 2 inch width strips with teddy bears. I set those aside for the centers of a string quilt. I had almost enough for these 20 blocks. I had to use a different fabric for two blocks.

I quilted it with swirls.

The backing is an aqua with gold swirls.

And I can't believe I actually started and finished something in the same month!

And sew on...

A Finish

It's a finish!

42 x 52.5

I made this quilt to use up 4 inch width scraps and squares. Blocks finish at 10.5 inches.

There's lots of novelties in this one!

I quilted it on my sewing machine with horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines.

The backing is a floral.

I am now working on a scrappier and bigger version of this quilt using 4.5 inch width scraps and squares.

And sew on...

My oldest son and I cut a lot of scrub brush and fallen trees along the barbed wire fence that separates my cottage garden and our field of soy beans. The big mulberry tree branches fell several by years ago and I have been unable to cut them up myself. My little chain saw only cuts branches up to six inches in diameter.  The fallen branches are still alive and have been leafing and branching out since they fell. Most of the scrub brush is honeysuckle. All of the mulberry and honeysuckle were shading a tree peony, a couple of roses and some oriental lilies and I was so afraid I might lose them after another year in all that shade.  Oh I am so happy there is sunshine where once there was shade. And I do hope I don't have poison ivy now because I saw a big patch of it. So far no rash!

Tomorrow I think I will tackle the weeds that have popped up in the veg garden after all the recent rainfall.
