Carpenter Star Finish

It's a finish!
Carpenter Star
60 x 76
Big stitch hand quilted

In December 2021 I made 396 HSTs with 30s reproduction fabric scraps and Kona Snow (well, I think something other than Kona Snow might have gotten mixed in there too).  I then made 12 Carpenter Star blocks (also called Carpenter's Wheel, Dutch Rose or Double Star) that finish at 16 inches.

And this month I've been big stitch hand quilting.

This is the grand finale for this month's theme in my sewing space of "reproductions".

Next month my theme to move UFOs forward is "WITB".   What's in the bag, bin, box, basket?

And sew on...

Happy Halloween

The neighbor across the road puts on quite a display. It's all lit up at night.  We don't get any trick-or-treaters out here in the country but quite a few cars slow down and sometimes stop in the road to take in the view.

Today is my granddaughter Isabelle's 22nd birthday!

I can't believe she's that old. I remember her birth like it was yesterday. My husband had been on a chemo pump 24/7 for a week and developed a high fever that put him in the hospital.  The hospital has two campuses. He was on the West campus.   Meanwhile, on the East campus my daughter was in labor and after quite a few hours delivered a beautiful baby girl, Isabelle. It was kind of strange going between campuses to visit with my very sick husband and my first granddaughter while most of the staff on both campuses were dressed in Halloween costumes.

I've finished three books. For quite some time I was stuck in historical fiction mode - mostly WWII historical fiction.   Now I think I'm stuck in Detective series mode.

1. But Not Forborne by BJ Bourg. (Clint Wolf Mystery Series Book 10)

2. Water's Edge by Gregg Olsen. (Detective Megan Carpenter Series Book 2)

3. The Engine House by Rhys Dylan (DCI Evan Warlow Crime Thriller Book 1)

Rain today so I guess I won't be out gardening today. I'm still waiting for my Zinnias to set seed so I can collect them to sow next year. Looks like I might get a few seeds.

It looks like I can collect some Four O'Clock seeds.  The flowers seem smaller than usual this year.

I don't collect Queen Anne's Lace seeds. They sow themselves wherever they want.

And sow on...

Lovely post, very enjoyable, read The Engine House but not the others, I absolutely love the Carpenters Wheel quilt, it's one that's been on my bucket list for a while - this has spurred me on the get it started. My hesitation was because I wanted it to be scrappy and didn't know if it would be OK - well we all know the answer to that now, don't we?
Have a lovely weekend, Elaine in UK

Fabulous finish! Halloween isn't my thing, it feels morbid to me. I'm ok being weird ;-)

Happy Birthday to your first!!

Carpenter Star is fabulous - classic and scrappy and hand quilted and everything! Love the story of your first GD's birth and the contrast between the worries for John and the excitement for Isabella. Wow. There are a LOT of skeletons here, too (not in our neighborhood but some others are heavily populated). We do friendly ghosts and pumpkins/gourds - no scary stuff.

what a lovely quilt I love the Carpenter's Star. Your hospital experience sounds like one my aunt went through some years ago her mother (my grandmother) is in one ward recovering from a horrible accident that had killed my grandfather and Aunt was giving birth in another wing of the hospital - this was a month after the accident - the last month of her pregnancy was spent at the hospital it seemed.

Such a pretty quilt! You accomplished a lot this month. I look forward to seeing what you discover for WITB in November.

What a beautiful quilt! Hand quilting takes a while but the result is stunning! Well done. I’m nearing the finish line on my current hand quilting project. Gail at the cozy quilter.

Wowsa, another beauty! I don't think I've ever seen the Carpenters Star done totally scrappy --- I like it! Great way to vanquish both the HSTs and that repro stash. Your neighbors display is a hoot! Funny how life will create a situation to remind you of both the fragility and the hope of living in the same instant. Birthday blessings to your granddaughter!

Before I read your description, I thought that quilt gave a 1930s vibe. It is so pretty. I am so sorry to hear about your husband's hospital stay, but congratulations on the new granddaughter! Hugs.

That's a beautiful quilt finish! Your big stitch quilting is my "all the time" stitch, lol! That is a very fun Halloween display across the road there.

What a charmer that quilt is! You must be so pleased; it gives such happy vibes. 🦋🥳👍🏻🤩 Our kids took forever to get to 20, but our grands do in in the time it takes to turn around. Funny, that….Hugs, Nancy O.

I am also Stashbuster but I mostly lurk. I love your carpenter Square Quilt. You’ve inspired me to start one with my 1930s. I have the Accu Quilt die so it will be easier. Have a great day.
