I am tying up some loose ends this month. Last month I made Rolling Stone/Broken Wheel blocks for a quilt started in 2023. That left me with some 3.5 inch width and 2 inch width scraps. I cut 3.5 inch squares to make 10 Hummingbirds to be appliqued to yellow background squares.
I'm using the Periwinkle Block Made Easy tutorial from Susie's Scraps except I'm using 3.5 inch squares and 9 inch background squares to make my blocks.
I also started making these blocks in 2023 and have completed 21.
With the 2 inch width scraps I made a Beggar Block that finishes at 13.5 inches. I think it looks like butterflies. I think I will continue to make more blocks with 2 inch width scraps. I will use florals in background and the center and use gray for the butterfly bodies. I completed a Butterfly (Beggar Block) quilt Back in 2016 that was made with 1.5 inch scraps that I love.

I am wondering if anyone else is having problems getting to my blog posts via a Follow. It link. I received an email from someone who says she gets the error "web server is returning an unknown error.

Hi Cathy, I also love Susies Scraps and I followed your link to see how those Periwinkle blocks are made. Very neat and thanks for that. Also think those other blocks look like butterflies. Great sewing!
Just love that Beggar Block aka Butterfly block--so neat...
I am still re-folding; deep in my stash!! hugs, Julierose
Blogger can be so annoying. Mine is blocked by Norton anti-virus, apparently. If I could figure out what the suspect content is I'd remove it........Do you find that the applique periwinkles are easier than conventional piecing? More efficient? Or just different?
I use the Follow. It link and haven't had any problems reading it there or clicking the link from it to read directly on the blog.
Happy Birthday to your brother!
I really enjoy reading your blog and I'm always inspired to take actually use my scraps rather than keep saving them up for "someday".
Your posts always show up fine on my blogger dashboard. I also have Norton Antivirus (for now, probably not much longer) and for a long time it was telling me that all my quilt blogs that I follow were corrupted/spam or otherwise not fit for reading. I had to notify them several times that Quilters blogs are NOT dangerous and to quit, and they did stop doing that.
I like how those blocks are put together - nice!
I quit using Follow.it a few years ago (after I quit using something else that stopped functioning). Anyway I now use Feedly and haven't had any problems getting blog posts. Your monthly loose ends theme could go in a lot of different directions. I'm sure they will all be inspiring.

Like Pat said - I follow you on Feedly and never have a problem reading your posts. I love your butterfly blocks - that 2016 quilt is gorgeous! No wonder you want to make it again!
the hummingbirds are gorgeous. That makes me want to pick up some handwork. Butterfly blocks are going to be beautiful as well.
