Now, Where Was I? Arkansas Crossroads

Arkansas Crossroads
44 x 44
It's a top!

I'm trying to get back into the swing of things. Haven't sewn for awhile but I had a few things ready to blog about at the end of August before hubby took center stage with his illness. (see previous two blog posts).  This is one of those things.

In the past year a couple of different ladies gave me gallon bags of 2 inch squares. And I had a few of my own.   I've used most of the squares now in several different quilts but still have a couple WIPs I want to finish up.

Back in July I started making 12 inch Arkansas Crossroads blocks but after I made a few blocks I thought this old lady was getting an "old lady vibe" so was going to put the blocks into the orphanage and move on to make something else with the 2 inch squares.

I didn't want that "old lady vibe" for the smaller quilts I've started making mostly for kids. I want a bright, fun, cheery vibe.  Soon I hope to be sending some of those smaller quilts to Wrap-A-Smile now that they have some medical missions scheduled and are accepting quilts again. And I also want to send some smaller quilts off to the Bright Start program at the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.  I ordered a roll of batting at the end of August so one of these days I hope to have a quilting marathon.

So, anyway, I tried to change "old lady vibe" to "bright and cheery" vibe. I made a few more Arkansas Crossroads blocks in warm colors and found enough of a striped fabric in my stash to use for sashing.

Arkansas Crossroads quilts don't normally have sashing and usually look a little more like one I finished in 2015. So maybe this quilt needs a different name? At the Crossroads of Old Lady and Little Kiddo?

And sew on...

Thank you for all the comments full of positive vibes, good cheer, words of advice and prayers. Know that I appreciate them. I hope to reply to comments soon as our lives now change to a new normal - kind of a mix between "old lady and old man" vibe and "bright and cheery" vibe.  It's all good.

Arkansas Crossroads looks very different with sashing but it makes for a beautiful quilt anyway. Like flowers of a different kind. The print of the sashing makes all the difference and brings a cheerful vibe to the quilt. Great job! Happy to know that you are getting into a new normal. Take care. ;^)

I would not have guessed that the two quilts that you show, this one and the previous one, are the same pattern. The sashing and colors really make a difference. I do like this bright cheery one better, but my choices have changed over the years. Thanks for sharing.

Working on bright and cheery quilts definitely helps when dealing with life's other circumstances! I loved looking at your Arkansas Crossroads from back in 2015, but this one is a fun design, too. No old lady vibes there!

Crossroads is a good metaphor for what you've experienced in recent weeks. The solid elements (a Lynn D influence?) provide a punch to this great setting.

So good to read that your life is beginning to return to your new normal. I like the striped fabric you used to border your blocks. The stripe gives it life!

I like this block with sashing added. It is such a different look than edge to edge and both are nice. The stripe you used really gives it a warm comfy vibe and any child who loves color will love this one.

And I've been so relieved that life is settling better for you. Wishing you sunshine and rainbows and even a bit of glitter.

Lovely to see your sewing blogspot, Cathy. Nice to see that you are able to juggle some time to sew. Good for your soul and also for hubby to know you are “feeding “ yourself too. God bless you bith.

This is a delightful quilt. I love the bright colors. I having a hard time embracing being old. I don't feel young and I certainly don't look young but I still want to be treated like I matter. Right now some of my quilts are out of date because I sill like the country/primitive look of the turn of the century. Oh well, I still enjoy making them. Someone will be "over the moon" happy to get this quilt of yours.

Seems like we are all dealing with a new normal in so many ways. The bright solids have livened up this quilt and taken away any "old lady" vibe.

The blocks are beautiful. I love the boho vibe it give off. Are there lots of Kaffee Bassett fabrics or is it just colors that he uses a lot!? There's no way this is an old lady look!! To me it's Hippie Flowers!!
