It is mostly made of 14 quarts of warm scraps that came into my possession a couple of years ago.
Finally this quilt made it to the top of the quilting pile.
I had a sort of woven look red and yellow piece of fabric to use for the binding.
I quilted it on my DSM with a variegated thread in colors of a sunset. I only quilted in the dark streaks of lightning. I don't know what you call that quilting -- scribbly lines?
I added the last of the popcorn fabric I've had forever to the yellow mix of fabrics. Wonder if anyone will notice there is popcorn here and there throughout the quilt.
It was starting to rain the other day when I was taking the clothesline photos so I snapped them in a hurry. This morning when I went to post about this finish I noticed I didn't take a photo of the backing so just had to do that this morning. Someone gave me that fabric for the backing and I just had to show how perfectly it matched with the front full of scraps that came from someone else. And now the quilt can move forward to yet another person to enjoy.
And sew on...

I love this quilt. So warm and welcoming, some lucky person will love being snuggled up in it. Well done on combining all those scraps and gifted fabrics.
That's a beauty, Cathy! I love the warm and cozy feel of it, and the Streak of Lightning design is really neat. Such a great way to use up a bunch of HSTs!
Such a perfect backing for the fabrics you put into the top! Love that Streak of Lightning. It does remind me of a sunset!
That quilt is very striking in those colors with that design! The backing is perfect for it too. You've made so many different quilts, I was wondering which design is your favorite to work on and which one do you most enjoy looking at again and again?

Congrats on another finish. Love the warmth of this quilt but it is also striking. (No pun intended.) The backing fabric was meant for this quilt. Yumm, popcorn! ;^)

I love the effect of the fabric that appears to be a soft orange or peach in the light colors. It gives a nice blend and a softer zig zag
What a great quilt and wonderful story of friends passing on fabric for you to put in it. But, sorry, I couldn't find any popcorn pieces.... did it also have a little touch of turquoise... cause if so, I did see the popcorn. Now I want some. Darn it.... Fun quilt and someone will love it.

I am sure that someone will notice, eventually, that there is popcorn fabric in there. I wish I could be a fly on the wall to listen to their comments. LOL The quilt is lovely. But I love everything you make! Thanks for putting the link to the original finish post. That 14 quarts comment got the best of me and I had to go back to that post to see. I did comment on it at the time and must have forgotten about it. I don't know why they use quarts and gallons for measurements on those things. When I am buying one, I want to know the dimensions! I am sure it is an old, industry standard. Anyway, I enjoyed reading that post again as well..
I've been wondering how you and your husband are doing. Are you beginning to create a "new normal" away from the doctors and hospitals?
I love this quilt! It's a great design for HSTs; one that I will have to save. A free-motion quilting class that I took last year called that type of quilting "switchbacks".
