Zip-A-Dee-Doo--Dah!

Zip!
It's a finish!
60 x 81

I think I started making blocks in January 2022.

The Zip block instructions can be found at Klein Meisje Quilts.

I quilted it on my sewing machine with vertical lines.

The binding is scrappy and came out of the leftover binding box.

The backing is bleeding.

I think this was the quilt from hell. And it is full of cuss words.  I ripped four rows of quilting out because there was a big fold in back.  Then when I went to sew the binding on I noticed that the quilted lines down the middle of the quilt pulled the quilt wonky. I quilt one side top to bottom and then turn the quilt and quilt bottom to top. Well, evidently when I turned the quilt I pulled the quilt wonky when sewing. I couldn't live with it even though I will give the quilt away so ripped out about ten rows of quilting and straightened the best I could and re-quilted. Then...I rarely have bleeding quilts but, of course, this one had to bleed.    In my defense I was not feeling well when working on this. I think a spider or something bit me a couple of times on the face and neck and one whole side of my face had a burning rash. Still today my eye is swollen almost shut, I have swollen glands, the rash is spreading and I have a terrible headache.  So, I think this poor quilt needs to have some good vibes put in it before I pass on this quilt from hell.  Hopefully in a couple more days I'll be back to normal with the help of ice, tylenol and diphenhydramine.

CELEBRATE! (my word of the year)

Nov. 17 - Finished a book! Happiness For Beginners by Katherine Center. This book is not my usual type of reading but it was recommended and happened to be available with my kindle unlimited subscription so I decided to read it. I enjoyed the book. It was light reading.
“The more you register good things,” she went on, “the more you will think about and remember good things.”― Katherine Center, Happiness for Beginners

Nov. 18 - A gentle rain that brings up the smell of the earth.  A guy who smiled, said "'good morning, ma'am" and held open the door to the grocery store for me.

Nov. 19 -- This morning my husband John had an appointment with his pulmonologist. Good news! He is the first doctor  out of many many we've had that said there may be something that can be done for his inability to swallow! - speech therapy!  and maybe another esophageal dilation.  He needs to continue with his head and neck physical therapy exercises and continue to gain weight and overall strength and when he goes back for appointment in April the doctor will hopefully have reviewed all of John's records and consult with a few other docs and come up with a treatment plan. John says at this point he'd be happy just to be able to enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning!

Your quilts are so beautiful. The colors just pop out. I was looking at your posts from 2015 and the feather quilt really caught my eye. Please take care and same for your hubby.

Wow the spider bite sounds awful! I hope your treatments fix it up soon.

That spider bite sounds terrible, such a bad reaction that I'm surprised you could do any quilting at all. I'm so pleased there may well be a positive outcome for your hubby's swallowing difficulties. Both of you have a lot to contend with. Any yes, I do like this design, I'd seen it on various blogs and didnt think to much of it, but seeing the blocks put together makes it so much more likeable.

i have always loved that quilt pattern and yours is very fun and bright. Take care of that bite- maybe antibiotics and if you were close, I would give you a box of ivermectin. Not something to fool with.

I love your zipper quilt. I had fun making mine too.
A friend of mine had shingles on her face. It's never pleasant to have a rash on the face so I hope yours goes away quickly.

Very beautiful quilt!! I’ve been wanting to make this pattern for a while. So sorry about the issues this quilt gave you - I hope once you feel better from the spider bite you will be able to have more forgiving feelings toward it…LOL! May the doctors find a way to help your hubby. My DH has recently been labeled permanently disabled & may begin immunotherapy infusions soon. Beth in AL

Oh my! I can relate to the quilt from hell. You really had an abundance of trials with it but it turned out gorgeous. You always know how to make your quilts look vibrant. I surely hope that you are recovering from the spider bite. That sounds terrible. Your husband's news from his doctor sounds like the best celebration of this year! I am really excited for you both.

If that rash etc on your face doesn't resolve in another day or so, please go get it checked by a doctor. Spider bites can cause all sorts of nastiness and you surely don't need any of that! Hooray for the hopeful news from John's doctor! And honestly once that problem quilt leaves your hands, unless you tell the recipient they'll never know!

Please see a doctor about the rash! Your symptoms sound like they may be from shingles. My husband had a very similar experience—we thought it was insect bites, but it was shingles, which when near the eye can cause blindness and needs careful treatment.

I just finished my Zipper quilt, too, and also had trouble quilting it. I'm thinking I didn't baste it well enough. Some of the blocks look wonky now, but I didn't rip out any quilting. I'm hoping washing and drying it will help everything! That's good news about your husband - I hope the speech therapy helps. And sending good thoughts that you feel better soon, too!

I've made two zipper quilts because I made some blocks with the contrast on one side and others on the other. Dare I say that neither gave me any problem? But I have had unexpected bleeding with a couple of other scrappy quilts.......Sorry about the bite or whatever it was. Partly scary and mostly annoying.

I think you need to see a doctor ASAP as you have too many serious symptoms and it's not worth taking any chances especially when your eye is involved. Also, it sounds like the symptoms came on all of a sudden out of nowhere. I do however, really like your zipper quilt. It's so bright and cheery and looks like it would be a fun and easy one to make. Good news about your husband too. That would be so nice if he could actually taste some food again - and coffee too. Fingers crossed!
