Little Baskets
4 inch finished
Goal of 110 blocks met!
Started February 2023
I should have counted blocks before I made these last two batches because I have actually exceeded my goal and have 125 blocks. But that's okay because I think some might be a little wonky.
I started making Little Baskets to go with some fabric I had with Little Baskets. And I had the book Scrappy Fireworks Quilts by Edyta Sitar with a pattern for Lil' Baskets Quilts that I liked. I did not make my Baskets the same way she did. There's more than one way to skin a cat, you know. Weird idiom. Who would even want to know one way to actually skin a cat?
Well, I was going to use my basket fabric as the border, side setting triangles and alternate squares for the blocks but I see now I don't have enough so I had just enough of a brown with red flowers to use for alternate squares.
Now...some assembly required.
"Itty bits, fiddly bits" has been the theme in my sewing space this month to move UFOs forward. I still have lots of bits!
And sew on...

Sheesh, I can't believe I slept 11 hours. That rarely happens!

Today is oldest son's birthday. I can't believe he is 52 years old today. Gosh, mentally I still feel like that 21 year old I was back then. Physically, everything is just a little saggier. And some things creak.

I finally have replaced my laptop that died this summer. I have been using my husband's Kindle Fire tablet to get around. I just hate touchpads and like to sit and type like the wind at a proper keyboard. I'm getting used to Windows 11 and all it's weirdness with wanting to put everything on Onedrive which I don't want. And I don't need synching up to anything because I rarely even use my phone. My camera cable no longer works to upload photos so I had to buy a card reader since laptop came without one and that is how I have uploaded the photos. But then again the darned photos are on Onedrive and I want them on my local PC. Then I have extensive family history files, photos and docs...most research done before there was an Ancestry.com and DNA to do all the work for me...and my FamilyTreeMaker program (that I bought as a DOS version way back when and have upgraded along the way to FTM 2005) no longer works with Windows 11. It barely worked with Windows 10. So, I think I had all my family history files backed up to an external drive and I have purchased a new genealogy program called RootsMagic 11. So I'm getting used to that and want to better organize my family history files, photos and docs and then write stories about some of the folks I remember and stories about some of the things that have been passed on to me ("stories about stuff"). I wanted to get all this done before gardening season kicks in but now it is time for winter sowing. I am hoping to do some of that today.

Oh joy! I received a surprise package of scraps from Dawn! It was so fun to sort through all the pieces and think about what they will be when they grow up and become a quilt.

Hooray for the new laptop! Yes, OneDrive is intensely annoying......I am partial to baskets and yours are wonderful.
I am sending you spider plant seeds and purple angel trumpets, they are beautiful. Be on the look out, hugs donna
Oh girl, I dragged my feet on the Windows 11 switch too! I also will not use OneDrive! "The Cloud" is not for me. The world already has too much access to individuals....grrrrr
Happy scrapping!
Getting a new computer comes with all sorts of problems especially if one is not computer literate. Since my beloved Robin passed away, who knew all the workings about computers, I can still hear his voice saying, "how are you going to get on when I'm not here?". Not very well as it turns out, but I have found a computer guy to come and help, especially when mine kept telling me there was no more space!
125 baskets! Wow! That means you have 25 already done for the next basket quilt, right? Lol. Oh! Computer. It's really a love/hate relationship. I love it when it works well and I hate all the updates that change my settings. I don't trust Onedrive, I don't talk AI and I'm certainly not buying Microsoft Office again. I had MS, then it got old and needed to be updated. So, I got the newest version of MS Office. Then I had to change my memory in my computer. When I rebooted the computer, MS said that this was a new computer and I had to buy the newest version of MS Office. I still had the MS Office CD so I popped that in but it refused to download. So, I started boycotting MS. :^P Enjoy the winter sowing. ;^)
Those basket blocks are so cute and tiny! I'm still using Windows 10, I dread upgrading to W-11. My DH, as well as a friend (computer tech guy) are using Linux. They say they'll never go back to MS. I may 'convert' too...
Your little baskets are so much fun - and I like them set with the brown. Your woes with Windows 11 is why I moved to the Mac platform years ago and DH finally converted to a Mac 18 months ago. Aside from physical equipment changes, there are very very few hassles and even those are far easier now than a few years ago. Hang in there . . .
I love those baskets, Cathy! I feel your pain about aging. We are about the same age but I think I have a few more than a little creaks! LOL Congrats on the new computer. I'm with you - give me a computer with a keyboard and a separate mouse! I hate touch pads. Windows 11 is crazy. I finally disabled my onedrive and will reconnect it if I need anything from it. It would be nice if the powers that be would let the USER decide what they wanted to use! Thanks for sharing with us at Monday Musings. Have a great week.
I love your itty bitty basket blocks and it looks like all who have commented feel the same way about Windows 11. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I was wondering if you had gotten a new computer yet. I got mine in December and I'm still trying to figure it all out. Back in the day.....I was a whiz at the computer stuff but I feel like I got left behind. LOL I have all the frustrations you have with Windows 11, but I guess we will get through it. I am looking forward to seeing what you plant this year! I don't think I've ever slept 11 hours! I am sure you needed it.
