Do you know the name of this block?
I spied a vintage quilt with the unusual block. I do love vintage quilts and I'm a bit unusual so I just had to see if I could figure out how to make the blocks for a quilt of my own. I'm going to use plaids, dots, stripes, old shirts and '30s repros. My sample blocks above finish at 12 inches.
I first saw the vintage quilt above at Pinterest in a search for "vintage quilt". That lead me to the website Heirloomed Collection where I could see more pictures of the quilt. I think the blocks in the vintage quilt are larger than the ones I made and I think I switched the positioning of the darks and lights in my blocks but it's all good and now I have a new start without a name.
And sew on...

I don't think I have ever seen that pattern, it is a nice one!
It's Starry Path. My first quilt top used this design. But, I didn't know it was a quilt block. I saw pinwheels on point with pinwheel sashing so that's how I made it. Later, I saw the block in a book and had a good laugh.
Yes, Starry Path. Identified by that name in Brackman, #2352 and in Judy Hopkins' Around the Block (one of my first quilt book purchases and still a go-to). Brackman
This looks a complicated block, Cathy. Very delicate and pretty, you will make a lovely quilt from them.
Great start on your new project. I also have it as Starry Path in a quilt book from 1970. The block measures 12 inches. They have the dark position as in your blocks and not as the vintage quilt, so either way, it's all good. Enjoy! ;^)
I'm glad other folk came up with a name because I was clueless. Very nice block!
I have never seen this block before but I really do like it. It has so many possibilities!
It's a beautiful block! The fabrics you use with the start of your new quilt are lovely, happy stitching!
It was interesting to find that there were people right off the bat that knew the name of it. I did google it and found several posts on it. You really have a good eye for scrappy patterns. I think the inspiration one and yours will be the best of the lot. I am looking forward to seeing more.
It looks like Jacobs ladder only with pinwheels
I don't think I've ever seen that block pattern before. It will certainly make for a fun quilt. I really like the way it looks as a quilt. Please share with us the dimensions for the patches so we can follow along with you and create our own versions!
Ooooh, I love that block. I’d never seen it before, either. It will be fun to watch you create a new quilt from it!
Not sure why, but Blogger keeps leaving this comment box open on my desk top, so I'm commenting to try to get it to close. Nice block though. It's just the kind of block you do so well.

Maybe a modern name for it could be 'Wind Farm' with all those rotating pinwheels? :-)
I found the pattern on Quilter's Cache

I love your block with plaid fabric. I scream "Squirrel"!
This may have to be my new leaders and enders project.
Time to go fondle my plaids and florals. Thanks for the
awesome inspiration.
