Chocolate Box Finished!

Chocolate Box

It's a finish!
63 x 75

The blocks are a Double Nine Patch. I made this quilt because I wanted to use a lot of brown scraps. There's a few red scraps in there too.

The theme this month in my sewing room is "Brown Stuff" so this mostly brown quilt got quilted on my DSM with chocolate swirls.

The binding is scrappy -- various browns found in my leftover binding box.

I have to note that the sashing strips are NOT purple. It is actually a small print blue floral on a dark red background. I guess the camera combined the two to make it look like purple.

The backing is tea dyed muslin with chocolate swirls.

And sew on...

  2. I figured the reds in there were for the chocolate covered cherries.

  3. Who wouldn't want to dig into a box of chocolates after seeing this sweet finish! I like the fact that the sashing appears to be a dark purple. Sometimes our cameras play weird tricks on us.

  5. Congrats, Cathy! Another lovely finish. It reminds me to get my 9X9-Patch blocks and do something with them. I was gifted a fabric that might work with the blocks and I've set it aside just for that quilt. Now where have I put that fabric? Lol. And sew on.... ;^)

  6. I love this quilt, Cathy. I remember loving the blocks as you were making them. It’s turned out so well. I’m not a fan of brown ( although I did buy a brown dress with sparkles for our Golden Wedding celebrations a couple of years ago) but this quilt has won me over. Your clever use of red scraps and the tiny floral border bring it to life.

  7. Oh, oh, oh, what an accomplishment! You really pulled out all the stops for this one. Perfect name. That's funny how the sashing came out to look purple, and that's another lesson for me about color. It's fabulous. Right down to the quilting. Perfect choice! You are keeping this one, right?

  8. Absolutely gorgeous! I love everything about this - the double 9-patches, the chocolate and red and purple, and the sashing - that's a lot of work for someone who doesn't like to do sashings. I've never done sashings like that but I love the look. You have really inspired me now. And the little quilting swirls on a domestic machine too - I could never see myself doing all that, especially since I detest machine quilting. How do you do it?

  9. This quilt conjured up the song "Little Boxes Made of Ticky Tacky"
My head changed that to "little boxes made of nine-patches!"
    Sing it out strong!
