What's in the hoop?
Ocean Waves
This is one of my oldest UFOs. I started it back in July 2014 in order to use some 2.5 inch scraps of '30s reproduction fabrics.
I see from my blog posts I must have worked on the blocks a little in 2015, 2016 and 2017 and then finally in October 2018 I had a top 88 x 88.
And now it is 2022 and time for quilting I guess!
I wasn't sure how to hand quilt it so I looked at pictures of some vintage Ocean Waves quilts for ideas. I wanted something simple. I'm using perle blanc #12.
I'm quilting simple lines and not marking any of them. I'm just enjoying the quilting.
This is so beautiful looking to me. The combination of the pretty coloured prints with the fresh white is gorgeous. Also the lovely stitching highlighting it all. Are you enjoying seeing the prints up close like I always do with hand quilting.
ReplyDeleteVery fresh and springtime color palette. I love 30s reproduction (and vintage) prints.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! It will feel good to have it finished.
ReplyDeleteIt will be a fantastic finish for 2022. Enjoy :-)
ReplyDeleteThat is a really pretty one!
ReplyDeleteLove the way that you are quilting this! It is beautiful! :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous quilt! The quilting looks perfect for it, too. Enjoy your stitching today!
ReplyDeleteA very vintagey quilt and the hand quilting makes it extra special. I haven't hand quilted in ages (I'm not very good), but maybe I should try again. Holding a quilt in my lap to stitch might help keep me warm. The wind is raging today and the house is very cold.

Ocean waves is beautiful! Your simple line quilting is perfect for her, happy stitching!
ReplyDeleteThose "simple lines" of quilting are giving this beauty some wonderful loft and texture, a perfect choice.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a beautiful quilt dancing with sweet fabrics and pretty colours. Love the quilting.
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty Ocean Waves quilt and so good to see the good old straight line hand quilting, my favourite!
ReplyDeleteI think the simple way that you are quilting this makes all those fabrics shine. This is such a pretty quilt.
ReplyDeleteFabulous quilt. Love the fresh colours and the hand quilting.
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely quilt, showing off your 30s fabric so well. I like the way you are quilting it, it's going go be a gorgeous finish.
ReplyDeleteThe hand quilting is wonderful. Not only do you piece like crazy, but you do wonderful quilting. It is going to be gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful! You are so brave to just quilt without marking lines! I mark lines and still can't get my quilting straight! LOL
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful quilt! The bright colors against the crisp white background is what I love. I started piecing an Ocean Waves quilt trying to stick with pink prints on a white background but I was having to repeat too many of the same fabrics. I stopped working on it until I can get more of an assortment for a scrappier look. Bonnie Hunter's mystery quilt is starting Friday and I was thinking of doing it this year but most of my fabric is still boxed up. I will print out the clues though anyways and try to come up with a fabric combo that I like. It's been a couple of years since I participated. It's always something that comes up.
