From the 3.5 Inch Scraps

This year as one of many Rainbow Scrap Challenge projects I've been making Snowballs with dark corners from 3.5 inch scraps.   This month's color is dark blue/dark neutrals.  I don't precut scraps and just use whatever is in the 3.5 inch scrap bin when the time comes.

In 2017 I made Snowballs with light corners thinking I would combine them all together randomly at the end of this year similar to a Lozenge quilt I made a few years ago.

In July I decided to play around a little bit with the Snowballs and decided I would try something different instead of going with the Lozenge idea.

I started sewing together all the Snowballs into blocks of nine of the same color.
I'll probably alternate dark and light blocks and make a twin sized donation quilt.

  1. The blue snowballs are looking great. Love the way you have set them into 9 patch blocks. Alternating blocks with light corners and with dark corners is a good idea.

  2. Very clever layout mixing the two (light/dark).

  3. And you have provided me with another scrappy idea to use up my scraps. I have strings, 2.5" squares, 2" squares, but not many 3.5" squares! Another goal! Yea!!

  6. I love snowball blocks, and these blues are so deep and rich. Alternating the light and dark corners is a great idea too.

  7. I like the nine patch idea for your snowball blocks! Having those all together when you're ready will make the quilt top go together quickly. I had to go back and look at your lozenges quilt, though, and I really love that one!

  9. Love your snowball idea. But it may take me a couple years to warm up to the snowball idea after just finishing the piecing of my lozenge top!
