A Finish! Cattywampus

Cattywampus
45 x 60

A donation quilt.
(Sorry pic is so blurry. It's snowing and too cold to go out for a clothesline photo so I pinned it to quilts on a quilt rack in the guest room and the lighting is not that good in there right now for a full sized photo.)

I used 6.5 inch centers of three different cat fabrics with a black background.

And I made 15 inch wonky logs with my bright colored strings.

I quilted it on my DSM with big wobbly spirals in black thread.  I wish now that I had used a lighter thread that would blend a little better and not show all my quilting imperfections but I had a lot of black thread on hand. (I had a carpal tunnel flare up at the time  I was quilting this from too much hand quilting and my fingers and wrist weren't working very well. That's not to say my quilting would have been a whole lot better without carpal tunnel problem.) The binding came from the leftover binding box and I used bright pieces in warm colors. I normally sew the binding down by hand but the places where I usually donate quilts (Quilts Beyond Borders and Wrap-A-Smile) have requested that the binding be sewn down by machine.

I pieced the batting and backing - leftovers from other quilts.

  2. Whoever receives this bright cheerful quilt won't mind a bit if some of your stitches are a bit wobbly. I hope your carpal tunnel issue resolves itself quickly. The sharp pain in my wrist last weekend brought me to a screeching halt quilt-wise. Hoping to get a diagnosis on Monday.

  3. Brilliant. Gives me a great idea for using up a bunch of cat themed blocks I have sitting around. Take care of your self, carpal tunnel is quite pernicious.

  4. This quilt flat-out makes me giggle! Love all the cats and bright colors.
I hear ya on the carpal tunnel problems. It's amazing how big a crimp it can put in your style!

  5. Love this bright, fun quilt and such a great pattern to use up scraps. You do well to keep quilting with carpel tunnel issues. I have a bad shoulder and do find it very hard to machine quilt - so frustrating when there are so many quilts to finish, so hats off to you!

  6. I like this quilt a lot and I think the quilting is perfect for it. I have carpal tunnel in both wrists too so I know how it can affect your quilting. I was really surprised to find out how many quilters have it.

  7. Cathy, this is such a fun quilt - and you know what? The quilting is perfect on it! Those wobbles don't come across as anything but wonderfully organic on this quilt. That charm would have been lost with a light thread.

  8. I really like the quilting! Like Lynette said, it's not wobbly, it's organic :) With the black backgrounds on the kitty fabrics, black thread seems like a good choice to me. This will make an excellent donation to either QBB or WAS, providing comfort and distraction to a youngster :)

  9. I hope your carpal tunnel settles down quickly and I'm impressed that you were even machining. You've ended up with a bright happy quilt, with lots to explore (I've just spotted the tiny witches on broomsticks).

  10. Great use of scraps, for the blocks, batting and binding. Well done. Perfect name for the quilt ....... or should I say " purr-fect "? Whoever receives this will love it!
