Wild Little Monkeys
81 x 97
I forget how many of these little 5 inch Monkey Wrench blocks are in this quilt. I miscounted twice.
I made blocks in the RSC color of the month every month last year. I used scraps in the designated color plus a lighter, usually neutral, scrap for the HSTs and then picked through the 1.5 inch scraps for the rest of the block.
I didn't do any fussy cutting but it's kind of amazing what will show up in a tiny 1 inch center square.
I think I need this kind of quilt during the long dreary days of winter. This type of quilt, lots of different fabrics and different colors, works as a great anti -depressant. It also keeps us warm since our house is heated by wood heat which sometimes goes out in the night.
I quilted it on my DSM with spirals in light green machine quilting thread. The spirals don't really look like spirals in this picture now that the the quilts is washed and crinkly but that's what the quilting is supposed to be - spirals. And a colorful quilt needs a colorful backing and binding.
I can now check another UFO off of my list!! Wooohoo!

ReplyDeleteYour quilt is fantastic! I may need to make one too.
ReplyDeleteAs I have followed the progress of your growing little monkeys it is even more fun to see you finish it off with a flourish! The tiny elephants do so look to be fussy-cuts, how wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThat's a large quilt with a dsm. You did great! Lot of scraps in that one for sure!
ReplyDeleteI just love those wild monkeys!, What a super happy quilt. I admire the large size quilts you make - they intimidate me. And not for the reason you would suppose (quilting them on a DSM). Instead, I have no idea how/where I would baste the thing! Where do you baste yours?
ReplyDeleteI am so happy to see this finished. I have been doing Little Monkeys for this year's RSC inspired by yours. I usually make large quilts too but this one will probably be generous single sized for our granddaughter (about to be 1 next month).
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt. I love it. Kathy Aho in MN

Love your little monkeys. I just printed out that pattern and put the cutting list on my cutting table to make one for me, so this is really timely for me! I don't usually cut squares for HSTs, so this is a custom cut and collect-em-up for me. Love it Love it Love it!!
